A 35 year old PRC mother by the name of Wang Shu Jun
was charged this afternoon for assaulting a SMRT station
manager, according to a report by a Chinese tabloid.
Ms Wang, a Singapore PR had attempted to bring his son
to take the SMRT train at Serangoon station on 10
September 2010 using only one EZ-link card instead of two.
She was stopped by the station manager on duty and
asked to return to the station control. Not only did she
refuse to do so, she flew into a rage and tried to assault
the manager by scratching her.
Ms Wang refused to plead guilty and claimed trial. She
counter-accused the manager of trying to ‘invade her
privacy’ by taking her photos and she was simply trying to
get her to delete them from her camera phone.
PRC women are well known for their ‘aggressiveness’. A
video clip showing a PRC woman scholding a Singapore
granny selling flowers outside Kwan Imm Temple sparked
a furore in cyberspace last year:
In January 2010, five PRC men and women ‘hijacked’ SBS
bus no 138 and refused to alight after being told by the
bus captain that they could not bring a wheelchair up the
bus due to safety reasons. The fracas dragged on for five
hours and only ended when SBS paid for a cab to ‘escort’
them home. The police arrived and did not make any
arrests.
While Ms Wang’s ‘actions’ may not be condoned by many
Singaporeans, she is an ‘ideal’ immigrant endorsed by PAP
de facto leader Lee Kuan Yew who declared in an interview
with National Geographic Magazine last year that it is a
good thing that Singapore is accepting many Chinese
immigrants from the mainland as they are ‘harder-driving’
and ‘harder-striving’ than locals.
