Police nab two for attempted kidnap hoax on 60 year old woman

</cite>SINGAPORE: Police have arrested two men who are believed to be behind at least one kidnap hoax attempt on a 60—year—old woman.

</noscript>They were alerted by her son on November 10 after she almost fell prey to the scam. According to a statement from the police, the woman and her son worked with officers from Bedok Police Division to lure the suspects out. They pretended to comply with the suspects’ instructions by going to Hougang Central. There, police spotted the two men behaving suspiciously and arrested them. The two will be charged in court on Wednesday with attempted cheating. If convicted, they could be jailed up to 10 years. Police warn the public to be wary of such hoaxes, including other variations such as lottery or lucky draw phone scams. They advise those receiving such calls to remain calms and contact their loved ones to verify their safety. Police also said members of the public should not reveal their particulars or transfer money to the scammers and should instead call the police immediately. — CNA/vm
