I certainly hope the uniformed officer on that house visit was not from the local police, as the latter's duty is to protect the local population. Local police officers are civil servants and they should live up to the true meaning of "being a civil servant" and hence should go all out in protecting the local populace, who are tax-payers and contributing to GST, etc.. Most importantly, the local police officers should be apolotical, ie, they should not take sides and should only serve the people and that too without fear or favour.
Politicians on rounds, who are afraid of their personal safety and well-being, as a result of some unfortunate incidents of the past, should hire Certis Cisco, Aetos security guards or any other guards from the thousands of security companies operating in Singapore.
I remember the day when Indira Gandhi, the former Congress Party Prime Minister of India was taken to task for abusing the use of a helicopter from the Indian Air Force. This brought about the fall of her government. It can happen here too, if the leaders take things for granted and feel that they have all the rights to abuse their authority.
Finally, the very presence of that "uniformed officer" in that Woodlands should become a subject of an on-going investigation tasked with telling the population the truth.
The people should not condone abuse of power by people in authority, as this will slowly but surely erode the public confidence in the local police. Our local police have many other important thoings to do in serving and attending to the needs of the people. They should nab young trouble-makers in pubs and outside convenience stores, visit homes of the residents and find out ways in helping troubled youths, instead of concentrating their energy, time and effort on other illegal and unimportant tasks.
The senior officers of these uniformed officers should also be investigated for agreeing to supply such uniformed officers.
Politicians are elected by the people and hence should serve them without fear and take occassional threats in their stride.
We the people of Singapore are always under threats on the streets, roads and in other areas. It is we who should be given all the protection. The local force should be there to serve us.
