A NEW shipment of goods had just arrived at the nondescript shop house.
Even as the boxes were being stacked up outside the shop, police officers swooped in and stopped all activity.
What they found when they prised open some of the boxes raised eyebrows: More than 10,000 counterfeit mobile phones, believed to be the biggest haul of fake electronic goods ever.
In the boxes were popular brands such as Apple’s iPhone, BlackBerry and Nokia.
The raid on Tuesday afternoon was at a two-storey shophouse in Block 47 at Tanglin Halt Road.
The China-made phones are believed to be headed for retail shops in Singapore and the region.
Police raided the groundfloor shop space, the half of the portion sublet by the owner.
Tenants in neighbouring shops told The New Paper that they had no idea the shop was involved in illegal operations.
It had no signboard.
