SINGAPORE: Thirty-six illegal immigrants have been arrested for the offence of entering Singapore unlawfully, police said in a news release on Tuesday (Jul 21).
The Singapore Police Force said officers from the Police Coast Guard (PCG) had spotted an unlit boat moving south of reclaimed land at Tuas on Saturday at about 8.15pm. PCG immediately alerted the various land and sea resources, and intercepted the vessel.
Thirty men and three women, between the ages of 22 and 56 were on board and the boat was seized.
Commander of the Police Coast Guard, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Hsu Sin Yun, said: "The successful detection and arrest of the 36 subjects is testament to PCG’s resolve to safeguard our territorial waters, despite the challenging nature of our operating terrain."
