Police catch kidnap suspects after ex-official snatched outside his home in northern China

Police have caught a gang of kidnappers after a former local Communist Party official from northern China was abducted outside his house and bundled into the boot of a car, according to a newspaper report.
Police said Li Shaowen, who is now an official at a college in Zhengzhou in Henan province, was taken last Thursday, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.
The car was tracked down the next day to the city of Xinyang about 350 km away and two of the gang were caught by armed police, the report said.
A third suspect is still on the run.
The car Li was abducted in was found burned out, according to the report.
Li was the former party chief in Shangcheng county in Henan province.

Two of the suspects were arrested by armed police.
The gang researched his details on the internet before carrying out the kidnap attempt.
The report gave no details of any ransom demands made.
