Police bust gang responsible for more than seven cases of machinery theft

CHERAS: A gang of four men, including a Gang 36 member, responsible for more than seven cases of stealing heavy machinery from construction sites in the Klang Valley, have been busted by the police.

The first two suspects, aged 33 and 32, were detained at Sungai Besi on Sept 18 at 2.30pm.

They then led police to a bridge near Taman Sungai Besi where a stolen road roller was found.

The other two suspects, aged 31 and 44, were detained at Serdang and Seri Kembangan where two more stolen bull-dozers were found some two hours later.

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Mohan Singh said police believe one of the suspects arrested was a Gang 36 member with previous record of drug abuse.

“We are currently on the lookout for five other accomplices that are believed to still be on the loose.

“The suspects have been active for the past six months in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, using a rental lorry to move the stolen machinery around,” he told a press conference on Tuesday.

He added police believe that the suspects planned to sell the stolen machinery for half its market price.

ACP Mohan added that the total loss incurred by the robbery was estimated about RM700,000.

“The suspects have been remanded until Sept 27 to assist in investigations.

“With these arrests, police have solved seven robbery cases reported around the Klang Valley area,” he said.
