SINGAPORE: Police have arrested an 18 year-old youth believed to be responsible for at least five cases of arson in Ang Mo Kio.

In these cases, the serial arsonist would set fire to discarded items such as cardboards, old newspapers and recycling plastic bags placed outside flats.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division studied the crime pattern and conducted extensive investigative follow-ups before identifying him.

The suspect was arrested on Tuesday noon at his home in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3.

He will be charged in court on Thursday with mischief by fire and can be jailed up to seven years and fined.
