Police arrest woman for stealing abalone

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a woman believed to have stolen four cans of abalone worth a total of $164.
The woman, 55, allegedly took two cans of abalone worth $79 from a shop on Wednesday, and took another two cans of abalone worth $85 from a Redhill Lane shop on Thursday.
Four cans of abalone were recovered from her at the time of her arrest at Pasir Panjang Road on Thursday.
If convicted, she faces up to seven years in jail, and a fine.
The police said in a statement that retail outlets should be vigilant against shop thieves, and encouraged them to implement the following measures against shop theft:
a) Display posters or signage to deter shop theft;
b) Ensure a good line of sight for the displays by using an appropriate shop layout;
c) Keep expensive merchandise in locked display cabinets; and
d) Deploy adequate security personnel to patrol the premises in luminous vests for increased visual deterrence effect.
