Better chance of a non-Chinese PM with the younger generation: PM

SINGAPORE - Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was asked by TIME magazine whether a non-Chinese could be the country's PM, and whether Singapore's development experience could be emulated by others. Here are edited extracts of the exchange.

With due respect, I feel that only top PSC scholars and President Scholars are suitable to be our Prime Minister. They have been closely vetted by our system and are of top notch calibre, in their studies, their ECAs, their careers in the civil service. If they weren't the best, they wouldn't be President Scholars to begin with.

I think NTUC chief Chan Chun Sing would make a good PM.
