近日，网上热传建造中的003航母的最新高清照片，相较于此前的卫星图片，此次由网友发布的航拍图片，确实是003航母建造以来，最为清晰的一组照片了。从这些照片来看，003航母的建造已经接近尾声，下水指日可待。
根据卫星图片显示，位于上海长兴岛上江南造船厂的4号船坞在今年6月已经清空，而003航母的巨型分段随后就进入船坞内，进行合拢建造，从此次最新图片来看，003航母的大体轮廓已经基本成型，单缺艏部球鼻艏分段，由此可见，003航母的建造进度真可谓神速。
与辽宁舰和山东舰不同，003建造采用了更加先进巨型总段建造，在船台组合需要步骤和工序更少，这些巨型总段由不同船厂建造，然后送到总装厂组 建，从而节约建造时间。按照目前的建造进度来看，如果一切顺利的话，003型航母将有望在11-12月份左右完成全部的建造任务，在年底正式下水开始舾装 工作。此外，巨型总段还可以预先舾装包括管线、阀门、底座等附属设备都预先安装到位，这样舰船下水之后，舾装周期可以大大缩短，进一步减少了舾装时间。因 此，003型航母未来海试和交付的周期也将会提前。
从照片中，还可以看见003型航母旁边停泊着江南造船厂为达飞集团建造的22000TEU超大箱船，该船长400米，宽61.3米，而建造003型航母的船坞长350米，有军事爱好者因此推测出003型航母的大致尺寸，其总水线长度约320米左右，超过第一艘国产航母山东舰的305米，而003型航母的尾部形状也较为特别，看起来要比美国福特级似乎还要更宽一些，有分析认为，其水线宽度达到了40米。因此综合来看，003型航母的满载排水量达到8万吨以上是没有问题的，这也意味着它将达到重型航母的标准。
英国简氏防务周刊曾经刊文指出，003型航母排水量将达8.5万吨，可搭载48架歼 15舰载机，而前几天首飞的空警600型预警机，也正是为003型航母量身打造的，更大的甲板尺寸和内部空间，无疑能够为空警600上舰提供更为有力的支持。
此外，军事专家李杰在前几天举办的“海洋与国防科普教育专家对话”论坛上公开表示，003航母可能不再采用滑跃式甲板，而是采用弹射起飞装置，诸多迹象表明，国产电磁弹射器技术已基本成熟，应用在003型航母上的可能性极大。
