Pinay Maid Inherited $6M from Dead GP!

No lah!..give & take...take & give, give & take....till can not give anymore, now TAKE!:D

Yes the deceased Dr(he/she?) must have taken more tha he/she gave. So he/she left this filipino everything in gratitude. :)

I hope the maid doesn't make the mistake of trying to live & spend the money in Spore. With that kind of money she could do better elsewhere.

The deceased is a "she".

So those dirty mind thinking about a sexual relationship between them... out!!

:(

The doctor is a she. According to reliable gossips , her late mother alienated almost every family members till hardly anyone bother to showed up at her funeral. Family feuds kept everyone at bay and family members barely keep in touch with one another. Also she was eccentric. So the maid is lucky, as in at the right place at the right time.

Agree. Well articulated.
She's been with the doctor for over 20+ years.

Relatives & friends are probably too busy with their own affairs. Sometimes its better to give to someone who deserves it then to ones own relatives or gov't

Really??J. Looks like you and Johnny have forgotten history. I said it before and I say it again. Family feuds. I remembered it was big news in Singapore and Malaysia. It was late 70's or early 80's.

I'm glad someone cleared up the doctor was a she.
It's been a long time since I've read ST because I refuse to pay for propaganda:)

Having odd people is not unique to Spore
You'll probably find alot of dysfunctional families on this island. Especially with added pressures people face here :(

The maid must have liked her employer, otherwise she wouldn't have stayed on for 20+ years. Yes the maid was lucky to be working for someone she liked. In this case it was a maid & not a cat or dog who was the beneficiary:D

no better to hit back against your relative for the way they treated you.

i see...... lawsuits, and lots of rich lawyers.

Precisely, very good answer. And here I was thinking this is something that is understood by all. Looks like we have overestimated everyone including the rubbish you answered to.

I think the norm nowadays is to have smaller families. The outcome of the stop at 2 policy & the higher oppurtunity cost of having children.

So many of the forummers don't understand or don't care about the interactions that can go on within a large family :)

You're probably right.

After the lawyers get through who knows how much will be left of the inheritance

$6 million maid

<!-- by line --><!-- end by line -->
<!-- end left side bar --><!-- story content : start -->
IN 1986, a petite Filipina arrived here to take up a job as a maid to a general practitioner.
When her employer Dr Quek Kai Miew died a year ago, she inherited a cool $6 million from her estate, including the apartment in Leonie Hill.
Read the exclusive story in The Straits Times today.

So the GP has no spouse, partner, children, siblings, nieces, nephews, or cousins?

Willing your fortune outside the family is actually commonplace. The usual practice is give it to charity. There are many reasons for it and they include family feud done out of spite, done on the basis that they are irresponsible and need to learn, done on the basis that they don't earn or deserve it, done on the basis that they must make their own way in life.

Such wills are usually accepted as the lawyers handling such fortunes are required to provide appropriate guidance similar to lawyers that are required to advise couples to explore reconciliation before proceeding towards divorce. If you think that there is something amiss, you can lodge a complaint with the law society.

Wills that are contested are usually done because the beneficiary had used unjust means to acquire the status.

My understanding is that the extended family is happy with the outcome and no one was hoping for anything in view of the mother and her antics. One of the nephew actually put up the maid after the death of the daughter and there is no ill will or least amongst the siblings and the next generation in the main. One must understand what one does with his or her fortune is pretty much their owwn matter.

The one involving OCBC and the adopted daughter of the old lady is a different kettle of fish. They were milking her dry while she was alive.

By the way she is not the only maid/servant/driver or caregiver to receive a sizeable fortune.

From reliable gossips. Sumiko Tan is getting married today. Her 'main squeeze' is the late doctor's nephew

Sumiko who? :)

I heard that some 'single' Sporeans prefer to holiday overseas during the chinese new year to avoid nosy relatives.

Sumiko Tan can now enjoy her holidays in Spore and in peace :)

the maid looked after the doctor and her elderly mother....

she earned it thru her devotion to the family...

GOD is fair....
