SINGAPORE: A pimp's assistant has been sent for reformative training for vice related offences on Friday.
Nineteen-year-old Ahmad Habiibul Hakim Assalafi admitted to helping 32-year-old Malcolm Graham Head run his brothel, among other things, between February and March this year.
The vice offences, which include living on the earnings of a prostitute, managing a brothel and abetting paid sex with a minor, came to light when Head and Ahmad Habiibul were arrested for robbery along with three accomplices.
The three accomplices are Head's girlfriend, Veronica Patricia Rio, 18; Habiibul's sister, Nuurul Aliyyah Abdul Talib, 23; and Nur Azilah Ithnin, 21.
Ahmad Habiibul also admitted to theft, causing hurt and possessing a weapon.
In submissions, prosecutor Stella Tan asked for reformative training for the accused, citing reasons that he is young and was exploited by the older pimp.
She added that Ahmad Habiibul had less culpability and reformative training will give him a chance to learn new skills.
However, defence lawyer Tania Chin urged the court to pass a jail term for her client.
She said that the accused is aware and prepared for the mandatory caning if a jail term is imposed.
Channel NewsAsia understood that Ahmad Habiibul has been in remand for about eight months, and a jail sentence would mean a shorter time left to serve as compared to reformative training.
However, District Judge Hamidah Ibrahim found Ahmad Habiibul suitable for reformative training.
Head and Rio's cases are still ongoing while Nur Azilah has already been sentenced to 22 months' imprisonment.
Nuurul Aliyyah is said to be on the run. - CNA/fa
