Pickpocket suspects barge through bus door and flee
3 July 2012 5:01 PM | Updated 5:37 PM

Two men allegedly slashed open the trouser pocket of a bus passenger to steal cash, boarded the bus again later, and escaped even though bus doors were closed.
The incident took place at 9.45am last Friday (29 June) at a bus-stop near Aljunied MRT station.
At that time, a 47 year-old system engineer, Mr KS Ng, was taking bus service 62 from his home in Hougang to work, The New Paper reported. When the bus went by Macpherson Road, two men boarded the bus.
One of the men sat next to Mr Ng, who recalled that the man was about 1.76 m tall and appeared to weigh more than 100kg. The other man sat behind them.
At Aljunied MRT station, the two men alighted and Mr Ng then sensed something amiss as there were many empty seats around him. To his dismay, he found that his trouser pocket had been cut open. He quickly reached for his wallet in the back pocket – it was there, but a $50 note and a few $10 notes were gone.
Lianhe Wanbao reported that he then decided to take the bus, which goes in a loop, back home to change his pants and make a police report. When the bus looped back to Aljunied MRT station, the two men boarded the bus again.
Mr Huang quickly shouted at the driver to close the door and grabbed the backpack of the bigger-sized man. They reportedly tussled for around three minutes before the man broke free and barged through the bus door. The other man then escaped along with him.
Mr Huang said he did not go after them because he thought the bus had a surveillance camera on the bus, but later found out there was none. There was also no one there to help him. He said that his hand and arm were scratched in the struggle.
Recalling the incident, Mr Huang said the man who sat next to him appeared to be sleeping during the journey as his head was tilted to the side. He felt the man’s hand knock his a few times but did not think anything of it. Mr Huang said his trousers and the inner compartment of his wallet were slashed open.
He has made a police report.
