Altie, as the mythical creature is known, is the legend of the Altamaha River, which is located just west of the spot where the dead beast was found. Author Taylor Brown said he grew up hearing the stories about the sea creature. But so far, nobody has been able to confirm who – or what – the carcass belongs to.
