Taipei, June 14 (CNA) An eighth grade student was hit by a truck during rush hour in the Yingge District of New Taipei in late May after being pushed into traffic by another student, local newspapers reported on Sunday.
The student, surnamed Hsu, has been hospitalized with a head injury for almost two weeks and needs plastic surgery on his face, according to the reports.
Hsu's mother said a schoolmate of her son, surnamed Chiu, deliberately pushed him into oncoming traffic after becoming jealous of his 7-inch phablet.
After watching the truck's event data recorder and hearing her son's account of what happened, Hsu's mother went to the local police department and accused Chiu of attempted murder on Saturday, the reports said.
Chiu's mother said her son was joking around with Hsu and never intended to push him onto the road.
She said her son felt pretty upset about the event and was in distress for days afterward, the Apple Daily reported Sunday afternoon. (By Wang Hung-kuo and Kuo Chung-han)
