The forcible responses after Hamas' armed attack are permissible under those circumstances, when the victim state (Israel) concludes that more attacks may take place and the responses are necessary to prevent them i.e. destroying Hamas.

I bet you did not know that Jewish religious law dictates a speedy burial for the dead i.e. within 24 hours. Autopsies are generally not allowed unless absolutely necessary to arrest murderers. I have watched multiple videos and eyewitnesses and reports confirm that Hamas terrorists were responsible for most of the deaths at the Nova music festival, as they used automatic weapons and grenades on the unarmed victims. I would say that the IDF's retaliation was an eye for an eye.
