China is likely to have loaded more than 100 intercontinental ballistic missiles across its ‍latest three silo fields and has no desire for arms control talks, according to a draft Pentagon report which highlighted Beijing’s growing military ambitions.


China is expanding and modernizing its weapons stockpile faster than any other nuclear-armed power, according to the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, a Chicago-based non-profit. Beijing has described reports of a military buildup as efforts to “smear and defame China and deliberately mislead the international community.”


“We continue to see no appetite from Beijing for pursuing such measures or more comprehensive arms control
 
China is a superpower and has every right to arm itself to the teeth if it wants to. After all, the US has been doing this post WW2.
 
China is trying to catch up after decades of lagging behind the U.S. and Russia in the arms race. There is no reason to protect itself again from its neighboring country attack as in the 1930s.
 
A strong defence is a great deterrent to war. That said, China has a 'no first use' declaration for nuclear arms, something that the US or Russia are too chicken to commit to
