Duo arrested for armed robbery at Serangoon Road

SINGAPORE: Two men have been arrested for suspected involvement in a case of armed robbery at a convenience kiosk, police said in a news release on Thursday (Feb 11).
The men - both aged 22 - allegedly donned balaclavas and targeted the business along Serangoon Road at about 3.30am on Thursday. Armed with a knife, they were believed to have made off with cash amounting to S$600 and 20 cartons of cigarettes.
Officers from the Central Division spotted "two suspicious men" who fled upon their arrival at the scene, the Singapore Police Force said in a news release. The officers gave chase and arrested one of the suspects.
The second suspect was arrested at Blk 520 Woodlands Drive 14 on the same day at about 2.30pm. Cash, cartons of cigarettes, gloves, a balaclava and an assortment of weapons were recovered and seized as case exhibits.
The two suspects will be charged in court on Friday. If convicted of armed robbery, they face between 3 to 14 years' jail, and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
