Now Pinky must watch his back.
Pinky already distrusts Tharman, especially after Tharman's brilliant showing at the St Gallen interview in May this year. Talk was rife among opposition circles about how Tharman would make a much better PM than Pinky.
When Pinky went on leave after old fart's death, Teo Chee Hean and Lim Hng Kiang stood in for him as caretaker PM, sidelining Tharman who is the DPM.
Pinky's insecurity grew to such an extent that Tharman himself had to come out and clarify in the July 2015 ISP dialogue that he was not interested in the PM's job: http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/matter-of-time-before-singapore-sees-a-minority-pm-tharman
