Have you people ever wondered;

1. How many NCO got a 12 years deferment !
2. How many NCO got such post.
3. Even a normal medical NS doctor after ROD leave with a Captain rank no less
and yet Patrick Tan leave as a sergeant for such a role.
4. Why only an NCO is being posted for such a vital and critical post !

Some many moons ago, in a cold & foreign land, guarding the ammo dump & staring into the cold night skies, " I wondered too"!, wondering if I could have some years of Nation Slavery disruption. The father(s) don't feel, what the COMMON MAN, like us, feel!

Soon NSF will be scrap, give and take 1-2 more GE to come. By then PAP will be opposition party. One of the PAP members is in Malaysia jiakhong and hope he die there and return back to Sinkiland as a corpse.

分久必和 和久必分.

even with Ng coming out to tok, it is obvious what happened. 12 yr disruption from NS is virtually unheard of....simple maths say , 18 + 12 = 30, 30 year old man, cat simi liao ?cheong simi lan jeow?

to think, a national footballer cannot even get disruption to represent his nation in a crucial WC qualifier but a white horse son can stay away for 12 year to research on soil speaks as such.

No man is equal in this world...

I rather Ng just stand up and say - look, he is special becos he is white horse...rather than wayang and give laser show to try to mask the thingy.

I keep telling you guys. There are a gazillion of EDB/NCB (plus a couple of NSTB though these were rare then) scholars who disrupted their NS for equally long periods of time. These are not white or golden horses but sons of washer women and hawkers. That was a time when admission into one of the Ivy League universities almost guaranteed disruption (and even a scholarship).

Just because you guys don't know about it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Why do you think I am so specific in saying NCB instead of IDA?

So let's go down to the "details" of this seeming transparent revelation without it being sieved thru a truly independent inquiry with trusted identities. So why the fear of putting it thru a neutral party. So did Tony Tan get the legendary 2nd egg in his Kway Teow.

The issue now is not how Patrick was favoured or not. Those motherfucking miw don't give a damn.
It is airing the issue in parliament and closing the case that matters. Think about it.

You really think you are Generalissimo but forgot to minus 10 ranks is it?

There were tons of EDB/NCB CORPORAL (where got Sergeant then) scientists serving their NS in EDB, ITI, NUS etc.

Actually, just ask that simple question, did the other two who studied in US got 12 years disruptions? That does it. If so, yes, who are their parents? Did they become MO or a "sergent scientist"?

fm what NEH said...the key criteria to enable disruption of NS to read medicine overseas during the period of 81(?) to 92 was due to the lack of army mos...plain n simple...there was no other justifiable reason...

if standford did not want to split patrick tan's md/phd programme then patrick should hv been notified by mindef that either he stick to getting an md(surely standford had n has a clear cut md programme of its own r patrick cld find some other us med school of his choice) n therafter return to complete NS r alternatively return immediately to complete ns...no two ways abt it...

this hazy ambiguous discretion shit that was thrown up by NEH is shocking n pathetic to say the least...dr lim wee kiat sld hv pressed further...

btw i know one of the two other chaps who was granted disruption to read med in the states...the chap who remained in the states...dont think he got any preferential treatment as such...v smart bright humble chap, now an eminent A&E specialist in the states...however also an ACS boy but quite afew yrs senior to patrick tan!!...
There is an old saying, if you are in a hole, stop DIGGING. I am afraid whilst Dr Ng's answers may have answered Dr Janil's pre scripted question it has not answered the key question and has raised more issues.

a. There were a total of 1026 NSF's disrupted in the period. following which OVERSEAs disruption for medical studies were not allowed. Only three were disrupted in the US, three out of 126 in that period. And whilst I would love to know who the other two were and their names, the following salient points come through. THEY both disrupted until the end of their medical studies whether in the US (9 ) or in the US followed by Ireland (12) and they both BECAME doctors because as even NG ENG HEN admitted There was a need for medical graduates i.e doctors and not some cocked up MEDICAL scientist.

b. Then there was a serious of spurious and laughable examples about why a STRAIGHT through PHD disruption for Patrick was allowed ( Non Medical ) examples and why Patrick was unique. Insanely enough whilst many of us would have said a genius 14 year old might be exceptional , not forgetting the lack of discretion shown to Melvin Tan ( Pianist ) and more talented then patrick tan who btw has not found the cure for cancer. We have PSC scholars and Rhodes Scholars who did disrupt for similar periods but then again Was P Tan firstly a PSC scholar or even a Rhodes Scholar ? And yes btw he was smart enough not to take a government scholarship and the resultant bond.

did Dr. Patrick Tan go for his IPPT then?

More appropriately, did he go for mass IPPT or 'carefully selected" ones? Another uniformed group allows its scholars who cannot clear IPPT to be tested on selected Sundays whereby the testers were briefed beforehand.

Youre right. I know of some purposely underperform just pass only in IPPT, SOC etc to make sure they donch qualify for OCS. Not intending to sign on, qualify for OCS is stupid. Serve reservist until 50 LOL

Let me point to all a very good example of one Rhodes Scholar who earned himself a Dr. of Philosophy in biochemistry (Oxford University). He underwent his stint in NS, received the Sword Of Honour, went on to higher achievements in civil life, and undergoing his reservist duties at the same time. I also need to point out he received many outstanding awards in his career. Yes, I am referring to Dr. Ong Teck Chin who somehow tarnished his name recently for inappropriate behaviour. Let us not dwell into that part of his life but the part where his studies mirrors that of Patrick Tan who somehow got 12 years derferment.

I quote from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ong_Teck_Chin):

"
Ong Teck Chin (Chinese: 王德进) (born 1949) is a Singaporean educator. He was formerly the Principal/CEO of Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), and resident warden of its boarding school.

[h=2][edit] Background[/h] Ong is an alumnus of Raffles Institution and graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1972 with an Honours degree in Chemistry.[SUP][1][/SUP] He went on to earn his D.Phil in Clinical Biochemistry at the University of Oxford in 1975 under a Rhodes Scholarship.[SUP][1][/SUP] On his subsequent return to Singapore, he became a Physiology lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Singapore until 1991.[SUP][1][/SUP] While lecturing in the NUS, he concurrently held the position of Vice-Principal in ACS(I) from 1988 until 1994, when he was appointed Principal.
Ong has also published papers in international journals on exercise physiology, sports ergonomics and fitness assessments as well as research papers on education.[SUP][1][/SUP] During his reservist days in the Singapore Armed Forces, he received a Merit Award for his essay Discipline and Control in the Military, submitted for the 1989 Chief of General Staff Annual Essay Competition.
In addition, Ong was the chairman of the now-defunct Broadcast, Publications & Arts Appeal Advisory Committee (BPAAC),[SUP][2][/SUP] one of the committees that advised the Government of Singapore on censorship issues. He was also an executive committee member of the now-defunct Singapore Centre for Teaching Thinking, established in 1998 at the National Institute of Education, as part of the Thinking Schools Learning Nation initiative launched by Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong in 1997. Ong is recognised as a Solemniser of Marriages by the Registry of Marriages, Singapore.[SUP][3][/SUP]
Ong has also been the recipient of many awards,[SUP][1][/SUP] including:

The SAF Sword-of-Honour[SUP][1][/SUP]

The Outstanding Young Person of Singapore (Silver) Jaycees International Award in 1975[SUP][1][/SUP]

The National Day Commendation Medal (Military) in 1994 in recognition of his contributions to the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF)[SUP][1][/SUP]

The National Institute of Education Dr Ruth Wong Gold Medal for the Diploma in Education Administration(Secondary)[SUP][1][/SUP]

The Public Administration Medal (Silver), awarded during National Day 1997[SUP][1]"[/SUP]

Ong TC is an exception of a Rhodes Scholar gone bad, as is Raymond Lim. Now we have to look at the true Rhodes Scholar in parliament, CSM. There are others of course like Thum PJ, but that guy may never be a politician.

Understand now that you must be a candidate for PSC scholar before you are considered for President scholar. When has the rule changed and why?
