By DESIREE TRESA GASPER

JOHOR BARU: A 41-year-old part-time bomoh was fined RM5,000 after he pleaded guilty to outraging the modesty of one of his lady clients, who wanted him to help her improve business at her restaurant. Abu Bakar Alwee, who is also a nasi lemak seller, was charged with outraging the modesty of a 35-year-old woman by conducting special "treatment" on her, including licking her private parts.

The offence allegedly occurred around 5.30pm at Abu Bakar's home in Taman Kota Masai on Feb 5, 2009. Abu Bakar was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which carries jail term of up to 10 years or a fine or whipping upon conviction. According to the facts of the case, Abu Bakar also licked the woman's hands, neck and the back of her ears before proceeding to lick her private parts which allegedly was part of the "treatment".

In his plea, Abu Bakar appealed for a lenient sentence stating that it was currently the fasting month and added that he also had to take care of nine children. Magistrate Hafizah Johor Ariff Johor fined Abu Bakar RM5,000, or in default, three months' imprisonment. Abu Bakar settled the fine. Deputy Public Prosecutor Dzul Iswari Mohd Jaafar appeared for the prosecution while the accused was not represented.
