Part 2 - WP Indian Candidate Resignation

Note his 2nd letter, a really doozy. The phrase " twist and turn" would be an understatement.

"1) My departure/resignation from The Workers’ Party (WP) was not timed to discredit/affect WP in the Hougang by-elections. The timing is incidental, a natural progression of the multiple unsatisfactory internal discussion/talks between the party Chairman, Ms Sylvia Lim and myself on the party cadre selection criteria/process in March and April 2012 ( I have emails and SMS messages corroborating our meeting dates to discuss this issue) . The decision to resign was not taken lightly but after exhausting options with the party.

2) Ms Lim did convey to me the 2 stated reasons (in my first press statement) during a private meeting in early April 2012 between the 2 of us to discuss the party cadre selection criteria/process.

3) There were no witnesses present at that meeting and hence I am in no position to prove to anyone that she did indeed say that to me. By the same token, I believe Ms Lim is not in a position to prove to anyone that she did not make those statements to me. The public is free to form its own opinions and I respect that.

4) I have never said at any time that Ms Lim or WP is racist and I would urge others not to misconstrue the reasons for my resignation. I am glad to note from the WP statements yesterday that the party sees itself as not racist and going forward, to address any possible lingering doubts, WP may want to be transparent and account to the public if there is a healthy and active participation of minorities within its cadreship/CEC ranks, besides the minority Aljunied GRC MPs.

5) Finally, I wish the WP candidate, Mr Png Eng Huat all the best in the upcoming Hougang by-elections. I will not be making any further statement on my resignation as I would like everyone to move on with the crucial Hougang by-elections."

This is a really clever paragraph, and malicious. Inflict max damage by planting doubt in people's mind about SL's character.

This would be a dilemma for WP. If they impeach Sajeev's credibility, then people will question WP's vetting mechanism to join the party and selection criterla for election. But if WP doesn't engage him at all, his statements will plant doubts in people's mind.

The task at hand is clearly the BE, no doubt. But in the bigger scheme of things, the future of WP could be at stake here.

So yes, look forward to an exciting 9 days of campaigning, and will plan a small BBQ on 26, watching live telecast (I hope).

Agree with you. Although no one has a foolproof device, WP should throw less caution to the wind when it comes to choosing candidates. It's a lose-lose situation. I believe there is room for improvement in their selection process.

The first thing that came to my mind is why the need for this 2nd statement.But it appears that it was Sylvia Lim that is prolonging this spate with her stupidio statement that she and her party are not racist.

Thus kicking the ball into the writer's court.And he responded right royally--legally speaking.Doesn't matter if he wrote it or his lawyer penned it.

He is clearly defending himself...particularly about the timing.Obviously what Sylvia indeed said about Indians,or not said for that matter is one's words against another.And the fact that this Indian chap quit the party in response mitigates itself.Which turns the limelight on the timing--legally speaking.

Thus Sylvia hanged herself by the very noose that she wore as a halo.

This episode speaks volumes of arrogance and underestimating people's dignity.Perhaps,Sylvia thought this Indian chap can be slapped around suka suka.But this chap taught her a lesson that questions her very ability as a leader.Sort of a small fry versus the Goliath where the small fry wins.Sylvia had grossly understimated the power of underdogs.

7. If I am LTK, I would continue to connect bond touchbase and re-invigorate the 20-year covenant I have with Hougang voters.
municipal, national issues, apologise etc those are for intellectual constipators like Anal-ist Meng Seng Goh - always missing the woods for the trees.

Morality Backlash? maybe. maybe not. note the new voters and Gen Z. Moral hangups? Sporeans anti-R movie very conservative in family families? go read up on divorce and affairs statistically or anecdotally.... whatever our personal moral compass & stand, in political terms, the Yaw matter is history and for political resoluteness and forthrightness, the only way is to move forward with even more fortitude and zest...

To be frank, the tricky problem for the opposition is the quality of minority members in terms of intellect and character appear to be below par and numbers compared to Chinese members. It's the same across the board for all opposition. This is not to put down minorities quality, but to say that the good ones from the Indian and Malay community are not coming up in proportion to Chinese who are interested in opposition's development.

I believe that all 3 races are equal in quality, therefore if the opposition's minorities lack quality and numbers, it means that a good Indian or good Malay is not as willing to plunge into opposition as readily as a good Chinese. With injustices against minorities a norm in any country including Singapore, I expected more to come up.

Yes,they are paid agents in this forum.It always had been from the days of soc.culture.singapore.But anyone with an ounce of political wisdom ought to differentiate.

You come across as a reasonable fella hence I respond to such veiled allegation.But first let me digress.May I respectfully beseech your attention to another similar political drama in Malaysia that is unfolding just now--this instance.

The fella in question is one Tunku Abdul Aziz ,a Malay Englishman of sort in spirit and soul,a royalty of 70 over years of LKY and Dr.M era.Never into politics but his credentials and integrity impeccable. Found Transparency International-Malaysia, the local chapter of Transparency International (TI), fighting corruption and in promoting good governance in the Asia region, including propagating corporate governance, something severely lacking in Malaysia. Served as a member of the World Bank High Level Advisory Group on Anti-Corruption in the East Asia and Pacific Region, the Asia Pacific Advisory Panel on Good Urban Governance, and in the Board of the International Institute of Public Ethics, and the United Nations Development Programme Advisory Panel for the 2002 Human Development Report.

Woooooh,what a catch for DAP when he joined it's rank just lately and was quickly appointed as it's co-chairman and it's senator.Finally DAP had this god sent opportunity to shed it's Chinese racist party image.Incidentally,Tunku Addul Aziz is a close buddy of Lim Kit Siang who was the strongman of DAP and it's ex secretary general and chairman for decades---whose son Lim Eng Guan is the current secretary general of DAP and the Chief Minister of Penang.

This is how the differentiation between how a Chinese father and son handling a Malay gentleman whose integrity and sincerity unquestionable.

As you know there was large demonstration called Bersih 3 in KL a couple of weeks ago.Tunku Adul Aziz supported the movement but was against politicising it.Bingo,overnight the most popular Malay royalty became a paid pariah.Just likw mindless WP supporters acting here.The Tunku life long sacrifices and deeds amounted to nothings against the mob mentality of DAP---who cried for his blood.And the Tunku's senator-ship was removed unceremoniously.

Which prompted Tunku Abdul Aziz to quit the DAP in a dignified manner,and than came the meanest of DAP's sewerage worm mentality and politicking .Lim Eng Guan tried to bribe the Tunku with a fellow ship worth $50,000 monthly to buy his silence.Remember this Tunku is a royalty and man of Lim Kit Siang generation.

The tunku than went public just like this WP Indian chap.

Now,you are welcome to draw your own conclusion why people are vehmentally oppose to Sylvia's style of political leadership.

WP's motives need to be questioned. Putting someone not suitable to be a party cadre is a reflection that WP puts party above Parliament.

Probably not racist. But they have not enough minority candidate so they pick any Tom Dick or Harry to be their minority candidate. However, they know that Tom Dick or Harry is poorly qualified and do not wish to have him/her/it among the ranks of their cadres.

Singaporeans should recognise that WP is putting in people not even deserving of full party membership as their candidates.

Bro,I didn't expect the above from you.Since I have a lot more respect for your writings.However we differ in our directions.Like rivers flowing from all directions but ultimately towards the sea.

Isn't JBJ the epitome of oppositions and a giant in his own rights a minority race who walked away from the very WP which he nourished with his blood and sweat?......what about Jufrie Mahmmod another minority of a high caliber political material.Even James Gomez who was with WP in the last GE with their A team is now with SDP.

Now,look at the array of SDP minority candidates.Vincent Wijeysingha is the darling of election campaigning.Not to mention that SDP had others like Prof Paul Thambyah.

I refuse to believe quality minority races refuses to join oppositions.It's just that they do not want to be part of WP.Why me wonders.

Sajeev was rejected as cadre solely on his skin colour alone alledgely because from past experience in WP, minorities quit after they become cadres.
Its dumb of WP either way. Had they not be racist in the first place, they would not have any problem attracting minorities among their ranks.
How dumb can they be by not accepting a candidate as cadre when it is only logical that the selection of candidates should be much more stringent than that of a cadre. What exactly would it cost WP to have another cadre?
