Serious PAP's failed succession plans

Confuseous

Who will be the next PM?

An issue in most people’s minds post GE2020 must be about the younger generation of leaders. This election was to be about them and their leadership. Their presence was hardly felt and PAP’s campaign missed a strategic thinker and a deft plotter. All of them had reduced majorities in their constituencies, with leader Heng Swee Keat registering just 53.41 percent of the votes, a 7 percentage point swing away from the 2015 result.

His fumble during his speech on Nomination Day made many wonder if he was fit enough and had the smarts to run the country. Political succession, which has been one of Singapore’s plus points, is in serious doubt. Long before Lee Kuan Yew handed over power, we knew who would succeed him. It was the same with the Goh Chok Tong-Lee Hsien Loong baton change. Now, who is going to be the country’s fourth PM is unclear even at this late stage.

And with the PM saying he will hand over the country to his successor intact, speculation has grown.

The next PAP elections, which is held every two years, could provide some clues. In the last party elections two years ago, Heng got the most number of votes for the first assistant secretary general’s post. With that party position in hand, he was made deputy prime minister.

But there were whispers that the 2018 party election did not go smoothly. The results were leaked to Zao Bao before they were announced officially. Was that done by Heng’s supporters to make sure that his victory won’t be snatched away from him? How the cadre members of the party will vote this time around, especially after the performance of politicians like Heng, will be watched.

The second clue will come when the PM announces his new Cabinet.
Will he appoint a second DPM, thus pushing the leadership race into the unpredictable territory? In 2011, when PAP got a beating, Lee Hsien Loong took bold steps like slashing ministerial salaries and getting Senior Ministers Lee Kuan Yew and Goh Chok Tong to relinquish their posts. Both were offered the Emeritus Minister portfolio. Lee Kuan Yew said “no thank you” while Goh took it up.

I believe the PM will want to keep many of the old-timers like Teo Chee Hean, Tharman Shanmugaratnam and K Shanmugam in his Cabinet as he needs all hands on deck to fight Singapore’s worst crisis.

It is time to read the tea leaves closely.

First, they screwed up by calling the speaker Madam president
Then misused the parliament to handle own siblings dispute, one-sidedly, thru a mysterious committee
Then the admission of HDB got no more value. CPF tightened to purchase 2nd hand resale flat.
Then they tried to screw WP, left right center, over a non event and insisted on an apology
Then they broke their last election promise of no GST hike
Then they were half-hearted in dealing with PMD issues
Then they played dirty, and shoved Halimah into istana swiftly without a vote
Then came various NSF accidents
Then came PFORMA, the world looks on without a clue how it will be implemented
Then truth be told, PFORMA was used selectively to silent only the critques and oppositions
Then the unforgettable leaked audio from 4G
The final straw, just before GE, the mishandling of Convit pandemic and topped the SEA in number of infected cases.

The above, must be the pride of PAP 4G's leadership. If we are still surprised why LHL is still not having a clear sucessor plan, look no further to the above happenings and form your own conclusion.

Just implement proper term limits and fuck off when your time is up.

Calling it '4G'... 'G for generation' means the country still has a long way to go before it catches up to the practices of civilized countries.

I think the PAP succession plan is moving smoothly. With Ng Chee Meng out of the picture and Heng Swee Keat doing precariously in East Coast, Bro Chun Sing is in line to take over as PM. There are some of us in PAP who were disappointed that East Coast didn't fall to the oppies. That way, Swee Keat would be out of the picture too and I would only have one real bro.

Bro Swee Keat and Ng Chee Meng were deliberately sent to shaky wards. If they won, good for PAP. If they both lost, the succession plan is more obvious. People who are absolutely needed to stay on post-GE2020 were not sent to those shaky wards.

We'll be reinforcing East Coast with CECA brahmins. The WP missed their window of opportunity to win East Coast and rid Bro Chung of a strong rival. One good thing about PAP is its ability to adapt and improve. Things won't stay the same. PAP will help sinkies find good jobs, solve the economic recession and in GE2025, the only ppl voting for WP are the diehard oppies. The disgruntled workers would be pacified and they will abandon WP in droves.

Great East Coast Plan!

But please remember to exclude Liew Mun Leong in the plans. His son was found by the court to be liable for deceit. :cautious:

From ST:
Ex-banker found liable for $6.5 million guarantee claimed by former client

A former private banker who was paid a visit at his Chancery Lane home by debt collectors hired by a former client, has been held by the High Court to be liable for the $6.5 million in investments he had guaranteed the businessman.

Mr Karl Liew, who is the son of founding president and former chief executive officer of CapitaLand Group, Mr Liew Mun Leong, was sued by the businessman, Mr Alan Zhou, for breaching the personal guarantees.

The court also found Mr Liew liable for deceit in making false representations to Mr Zhou about the investments, which were in China.

Judicial Commissioner Lim also disbelieved Mr Liew's claim that he had personally paid Mr Zhou $500,000 to help Ms Chen repay the monies, saying she was on the run. "Overall, I find Liew to be a dishonest and evasive witness, whose evidence was riddled with inconsistencies," said Judicial Commissioner Lim.

If you want to know who will be the next PM, or who will be the PM after the next PM with the shortest reign in SG's history, just take a look at who were with LHL at his post election press conference on Sunday morning:

-- Grace Fu
-- Masagoes
-- Shanmugam
-- HSK
-- Keechiu

I am sure you can guess why each of the above was at the table.

To be fair to Heng, WP was formidable in EC having worked the ground there for 10 years. .

Knowing pap, they wouldn't risk a potential pm if internal exit poll shows pap trailing WP. It likely pap was still leading WP marginally and hope hsk inclusion would pull away a comfortable victory. But hsk didn't cause much impact to the results.
