A casket company owner was fined $3,000 on Thursday for giving a $50 bribe to a man in return for addresses of deceased persons.
Chan Seng Wan, 38, who owns Si Hup Seng Kee Casket, admitted to bribing Victor Louis De Foe, 65, employed by Tong Aik Undertaker, as an inducement to reveal the addresses of deceased persons whom he had removed during the course of his work.
The incident happened at the National University Hospital (NUH) sometime in May 2011.
The court heard that Chan contacted De Foe in April for addresses of deceased persons, up to 15 times a day. Initially, De Foe refused to accede to his request, but later changed his mind.
