The MediShield Life Review Committee suggests that those who deliberately default on their premiums for the universal health insurance scheme be penalised.
SINGAPORE: The review committee has suggested that those who deliberately default on their premiums for MediShield Life should be penalised. The committee was asked at a news conference on Friday (June 27) how the self-employed or those who have not worked before should be dealt with if they do not pay their premiums.
The new insurance scheme MediShield Life will be compulsory for all Singaporeans when it kicks in next year.
"If you don't pay, the government will look into certain enforcement. It has got to be fair to all Singaporeans and not because of a few Singaporeans who deliberately do not want to pay when they can afford to pay. Now what are the enforcement actions that can be taken? I think this is something the Government, and (the Ministry of Health) has to work out," said Mr Bobby Chin, the Chairman of the MediShield Life Review Committee.
The committee added in its report that fines or withholding of insurance benefits are some examples of penalties countries with universal insurance schemes have adopted.
The committee said according to the Central Provident Fund Board, most Singaporeans have savings in their Medisave accounts, even if they are self-employed.
Singaporeans will pay their MediShield Life premiums using their Medisave accounts.
But some groups, such as young children or those who have not worked before, may not have funds in their Medisave accounts.
Sooner or later we will have to use it but the whole scheme is basically penalizing people who take care of their health and likely to live longer than people who don't and likely live a shorter life. Because the latter group will pay less before getting to 'enjoy' it benefit.
The way I see, it should be implemented like the NCD scheme for car insurance.
if u live longer arent u draining more resources?its thanks to u guys now the "life expectancy" is close to 90 years,we cant retire until we are 65 or possibly later....our minimum sum is raised to 155k and probably more, and we most likely have to be working part time till we die to supplement our retirement,so pls just do singapore a favour and just die before ur 70.
humans are so selfish,in order for life to regenerate, one must make the ultimate "sacrifice",stop trying to live forever!!!!no point trying to keep a corpse alive that can barely close its mouth or change its diapers.
Moreover, there is no sound about the option to opt out of it..
When a govt implement something and they don''t let you opt out of it, that is a serious case of human right infringement. Your PAP govt totally has no respect for you.. They create the policies in the EXPENSE of you..
Don't you find it weird that , all the while you don't have to pay anything..
and with this medishield life comes in, you have to pay for it...it means a reduction in your medisave amount..
And SINKIES still a blur fuck over it??? i can't believe it.. that is money going out from your account for yearsssssssssssss.......or lifetime..This is actually very serious loss of money out from your hand...
Sinkies... wake up!!!! Your PAP govt is using this method to get your CPF money out and you will not ever have enough for the minimum sum... They want your money...
where is the opt out for this??? Where where where????? fucking PAP govt is all out to get your CPF money.
In Malaysia, citizens only pay a few RM for medical.
No opt out clause. KNN, bastard white skunks milking more money from every sinkie. This time no one is spared, rich or poor. This is what happens in a one party state.
I have private insurance scheme paying though Medisave, why should I need this extra MSL?
Huh you mean we have to pay for this even if we have incomeshield already? Now for medishield we don't have to pay if we have incomeshield policy. And incomeshield is always increasing premium each time the medishield increase premium.
As is the case with all universal schemes, those who do not share the burden have to be penalised or the system breaks down and it is unfair to those who are pulling their weight.
This is not unique to Singapore, it's the same with Obamacare.

Yes, u do. You have to pay this regardless of what other plans u have. in fact, the PAP is so garang now they are suggesting that u can cancel your other plans because this one is so fantastic. hahhahha. U trust them?
