SINGAPORE: Singapore will be bidding to host the 2015 SEA Games
Deputy Prime Minister and president of the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC), Mr Teo Chee Hean, announced this on Tuesday at the flag presentation ceremony for Team Singapore athletes competing in the upcoming Indonesian SEA Games.
Mr Teo revealed that the SNOC will make Singapore's submission to the SEA Games Federation at their next meeting on November 12 in Jakarta.
He said: "I am pleased to announce that the government has given its support to the Singapore National Olympic Council's bid to host the 2015 SEA Games here in Singapore
"We hope that when the SNOC makes our submission to the SEA Games Federation at its upcoming meeting in Jakarta, the federation will agree to Singapore hosting the SEA Games in four years' time."
The Sports Hub, which is expected to be ready by 2014, is the likely venue for the event.
Without revealing any figures, organisers said the budget for hosting the SEA Games would be closely monitored.
Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports Chan Chun Sing said: "Although we have organised the SEA Games three times in the past, I think let's not be complacent. We should take every international event as an opportunity for us to rework our system and exercise our system to make sure we get the best value for money."
Singapore last hosted the SEA Games in 1993, when the main venue was the former National Stadium. At that event, Singapore won a record haul of 50 gold medals.
