Though they are confident of a victory in the Hougang by-election, fanatical WP supporters are still going all the way out to secure support for the Workers Party, including resorting to hooliganism to intimidate Hougang voters who dared to criticize WP in cyberspace!

One day after WP leaders rained baseless, vicious and malicious attacks on the PAP candidate in Hougang Desmond Choo, WP supporters followed up with a smear campaign to discredit and demolish his character with one Seah Ee Onn claiming that Mr Choo had tried to ‘buy’ the vote of his grandmother.

The antics of WP supporters prompted Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean to express his disappointment and dismay:

“Those who claim to be supporters of the Workers’ Party dragged in their grandmothers, made all sorts of wild accusations, even unfortunately tried to capitalise on a tragic incident to make voters angry and emotional.”

Besides Seah, other WP supporters have also been hurling all kinds of wild, baseless and defamatory allegations at Mr Choo and even those who tried to defend him are not spared.

Two days ago, we published an article on young Hougang voters being disillusioned with WP which showed a conversation between three of them on Facebook.

They have since been ‘intimidated’ by WP supporters and have written to us to remove their particulars:

One Hougang resident wrote:

“My family and I have been harassed incessantly by WP supporters in both the online and real world after we expressed our desire to switch our support. My mother doesn’t even dare to go out now as her neighbors will keep exerting pressure on her. Is WP some kind of secret society? Their supporters are really frightening.”

WP leaders have been urging Hougang residents to vote for the party to preserve ‘democracy’ in Singapore, but democracy involves freedom of choice and it appears that WP supporters have been forcing their choice on others who do not share the same political views as them.

We advise Hougang residents who have been threatened or harassed by any WP leader, member or supporter to lodge a police report immediately.

Hougang residents rally behind Desmond Choo despite being smeared and intimidated by WP supporters

Hougang residents have rallied behind PAP candidate for Hougang Desmond Choo (pic left) after he became a target of a vicious smear campaign launched by fanatical WP supporters who have also been behaving like hooligans to intimidate his supporters into silence.

WP member/supporter Seah Ee Onn had earlier accused Mr Choo of trying to ‘buy’ the vote of his grandmother on Facebook. His comment has since been deleted and he is nowhere to be seen, heard or found.

Mr Choo has debunked the allegations and said he would consider taking legal action if they persist. The underhanded tactics employed by WP supporters not only backfired, but prompted more Hougang residents disgusted with the Workers Party to switch their support instead!

Below are some comments of support posted on Mr Desmond Choo’s Facebook. We have refrained from publishing their photos this time out of concern for their safety after others were harassed by WP supporters.

“清者自清,浊者自浊!倍庆我们支持你!铁汉柔情!!! 倍庆加油!!” – Michael Chia

“是不是该感谢这网民教育了大家并具体地表现出‘人在做天再看’的行为呢?害人害己 。。。要知道一百件好事也抵不过一件蓄意扭曲的事;凡事凭本事,万事凭良心,方能转识为智呀” – Ryn Soo Ling

“Let’s all stand up for Desmond Choo. We are behind Desmond Choo.” – Ow Yew Wah

“Take Hougang back now and eventually Aljunied GRC as I’m staying there. I don’t see any changes or improvements as claimed by WP during last year GE.” – Edward Twb

One Hougang resident Chua Boon Siew also wrote to the Straits Times forum today complaining about how WP has short-changed Hougang voters over the years.

“I live in Hougang and, from my view, nothing much has changed. Residents should not expect new and better facilities for the next five years if the WP wins. Simply put, the WP has no ways or means to improve Hougang.”

Meanwhile, rowdy WP supporters continue to trumpet WP’s chances on the internet with some predicting an even ‘bigger’ margin of victory for its candidate Png Eng Huat this time to kick Mr Choo’s ‘sorry ass’ out of Hougang forever.

The pro-WP Yahoo News which has been doubling up as its unofficial ‘Hammer’ newsletter even predicted an ‘easy’ victory for Mr Png before a single vote was cast.

Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean has expressed his disappointment at the vicious smear campaign launched by WP supporters online to discredit and demolish the PAP candidate for Hougang Mr Desmond Choo.

Speaking to the media during a tour of Hougang on Monday, DPM Teo said he was disappointed with what has been written online by WP supporters:

“There is another aspect of the campaign this time round, by and large it has been good, and it has been clean. But there is one aspect which has saddened me and disappointed me a little particularly online.”

One WP supporter by the name of Seah Ee Onn has earlier accused Mr Desmond Choo of asking his grandmother to vote for him in exchange of an unknown ‘gift’. He had since deleted his comment left on Facebook.

“Those who claim to be supporters of the Workers’ Party dragged in their grandmothers, made all sorts of wild accusations, even unfortunately tried to capitalise on a tragic incident to make voters angry and emotional.”

Besides Seah, other WP supporters have also been hurling all kinds of wild, baseless and malicious allegations at Mr Choo including one extremist socio-political blog with a pathetic low readership claiming that he attributed his ‘low’ rally turnout to his friends playing ‘Diablo 3′, a PC game.

“I am very saddened by that, they claim to be supporters of the Workers’ Party, I think they should stop doing that. I am ashamed people are doing these kinds of things on the net,” DPM Teo added.

WP supporters are so confident of WP’s chances this Saturday that they have already popped the champagne to celebrate with some predicting a even ‘bigger’ margin of victory than last year.

... WP member/supporter Seah Ee Onn had earlier accused Mr Choo of trying to ‘buy’ the vote of his grandmother on Facebook.....

Grandmother eats more salt than Ah Seah eats rice. So, understandably grandma wants to vote for PAP. Ah Seah wants adventure and excitement and wants to take risk. So not happy with grandmother. So Ah Seah intimidates Desmond.
