SINGAPORE - The Government is seeking public views as it sets out policy directions to deal with demographic challenges.

For the first time, the National Population and Talent Division has made available a document online at Public Engagement on Singapore's Population Challenges containing facts and figures of the current population and issues that the Singapore society has to grapple with in the coming years.

Among others, the Government is hoping to solicit feedback on topics ranging from encouraging early marriage and children as well as views on the need for foreign workers.

Currently, there are 5.26 million people here, of which, 3.8 million are citizens and permanent residents. Non-residents, which largely consist of work permit holders, stand at 1.46 million.

PRs number at 0.54 million, and about half were granted to working individuals while the rest are dependents. More than 60 per cent of them are under 30 years old.

Among the new Singapore citizens, 38 per cent of them are working individuals while the rest are dependents.

Members of public can submit their views from today until the end of October at Public Engagement on Singapore's Population Challenges or email [email protected]. They can also send their letters to the division.

To cope with increase in population, need to acquire more land. Rename Singapura to Temasek and claim her status as capital of the Riau Archipelago with rights to central Sumatera, Riau Islands, some surrounding islets and lower Johor. Then if Pak Yudhoyono and the sultan up north doesn't listen and cede those lands, launch an attack with Sg's Apache gunboats followed by infantry landing to occupy. Every citizen involved wiill receive up to 4 acres of land to do whatever they want. Volunteer Ah Tiongs (and Ah Nehs) get 2 acres plus citizen status.
