THE Singapore government has just announced a slew of measures to improve train capacity within 6 to 8 years. They include a new signalling system, 22 new trains and the opening of new lines.

RazorTV asked commuters just how bad the situation is during peak hours. While some complained bitterly about the crowds, others compared the situation to Tokyo, London and Hong Kong and said that it is not nearly as bad here.

Always compare durians with Fuji Apples & Chinese Peaches....of course it is different..we were promised Swiss Standard of efficiency that comes with the living, plus a big doses of we are the best, we are unique...this is your SINgapore...

of course Tokyo is crowded, Tokyo is a big metropolis, their train lines are so complex even those living in Tokyo doesn't know all the lines..

HongKong a well known congested city...

compare...why don't they compare the Japanese PM or Donald Tsang salaries with Pinky??

i'm not pro government, i've take metro, tube,subway,mrt,mtr form various city, london, paris,newyork,tokyo,beijing, shanghai,hk etc basically most of the big cities..smrt is still among the best if comparing with the above, peak hrs everywhere is the same unless we adjust our working time.

There is no comparison. There are many factors that make comparisons invalid.

Firstly, the SMRT is the youngest system. How many years did the other countries' system reach this stage? At the rate the situation is worsening in SG, how many years will it take for SG to reach the situation of other countries?

The PAP has been in charge all the time. They cannot say they inherited the problem from other incompetent governments. Any cock-up is 100% attributed to the PAP.

Thirdly, the legal environment. The PAP can acquire land anytime to build more lines anytime. Can other governments do this?

Fourthly, is it acceptable for situation to deteriorate until it is worse than other countries?

Fifthly, the PAP is paid much more than other governments. We expect much better performance.
