SINGAPORE: The ruling People's Action Party on Tuesday briefed its Members of Parliament on the upcoming report on the review of political salaries.
Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong had announced the review at the swearing-in ceremony of the new cabinet in May 2011.
PAP MPs Channel NewsAsia spoke with said while they were given an update on the recommendations, they did not get the hard copies of the report. One MP confirmed that Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and most of the Cabinet Ministers were present at the meeting.
It is understood that Mr Lee and Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, who is Minister in Charge of the Civil Service gave the MPs insights into the recommendations put forth by the committee.
Another told Channel NewsAsia that the salary quantum proposed is "in line with market expectations".
MPs added that the report will be debated when Parliament sits for a second session this month on January 16.
The first sitting for the new year will be on Monday, January 9. That sitting is expected to focus on several questions being tabled on the recent flooding and the spate of MRT disruptions.
The report on ministerial pay is expected to be made public soon.
