SINGAPORE: Singapore opposes Russia's annexation of Crimea.

Responding to media queries on the Russian Parliament's ratification of a treaty joining Crimea to Russia on Friday, a Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson said Singapore opposes the annexation of any country or territory as it contravenes international law -- a position that Foreign Affairs Minister K Shanmugam had set out clearly in Parliament on March 5.

She added that Singapore also objects to any unprovoked invasion of a sovereign country under any pretext.

The spokesperson said Singapore affirms the principles of respect for territorial integrity, non-interference in the domestic affairs of a sovereign nation, respect for sovereignty, and the rule of law.

All parties, she said, should respect international law and take steps to de-escalate tensions and resolve the crisis peacefully. - CNA/gn

The Crimea situation is a good example of Western hypocrisy. Any country that claims to be a democracy yet deny Crimea citizens their right of choice are hypocrites

That was precisely why the SAF had sent troops to be part of the 'coalition of the willing' when USA invaded Afghanistan and Iraq during Bush's phony 'war on terror'.
