What are PAP govt doing to check FOR OUR CONSUMER SAFETY on especially food products from Japan?

PAP want us to eat Japanese sushi that can expose Kodak film when cameras are near them? If fish has contained radioactive pollutants, they emits X-RAY & GAMMA-RAY that will penetrate metals and over-expose films! They can be much more harmful than taking 1 million x-rays, because we are only exposed to a safe level of X-ray for milli-seconds each time when we take one. When we ate radio-active food we will be exposed to radiation 24Hrs X 365 days X while lifetime age. Radio-active wastes can be tens of thousands of times stronger in energy intensity than medical X-ray.

They are much more powerful than microwave ovens!

More business for healthcare industry and also collect more GST. It is beneficial to the economy as a whole

The impact can be very wide. It will mean a wide range of food, raw materials including plastic and steel, products including car & electronics, and spare parts for MANY THINGS.

Most of the food product are not from japan but from neighbouring countries.

Are you one of those idiots who goes around creating fear when there is actually nothing to fear?

Do you mean just because of your ABSOLUTELY CARELESS ASSUMPTION then ban NOTHING? Obviously lots of sushi are produced in Japanese waters which are Radio-Active now.

Just because there may be some are produced outside Japan, then we close eyes to assume everything safe?:oIo:

Even anything shipped via Japan especially via sea is UNSAFE!

You now want government to micro manage your food? You can don't eat Japan imported food for a change.

ABSOLUTELY CARELESS ASSUMPTION...yiou are refering to yourself?

and which part of japanese water is radio-active? Sea of Japan? Pacific Ocean?

Are you that dumb?

I know of old people of whom was almost cheated off money to buy "medication" and products to protect against radiation, are you one of them?

The seafood export form Orissa is likely to be hit in the coming months following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Around 30 percent of the total shipment of seafood from the state, mainly the Black Tiger prawn, is exported to Japan.

As Japan is reeling under severe crisis in the aftermath the earthquake and tsunami, the export of seafood from the state is likely to fall sharply in the coming months, the exporters feared. The exact impact would, however, be known after a month, they said.

"The export of Black Tiger shrimp generally starts from April. So the exact impact on shipment will be known only after one month," said G Mohanty, the president of Orissa Seafood Exporters Association.

Although the Black Tiger prawn is cultivated in Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu in large quantities, the Japanese are particularly fond of this species cultivated in Chilika, Asia's biggest brackish water lake and in West Bengal, he said.

Black Tigers worth around Rs 150-crore is exported to Japan annually from the state, he said.

The seafood export from the state is expected to touch Rs 600-crore this year against the last years achievement of Rs 428-crore. In 2008-09, seafood worth around Rs 350-crore was exported from the state.

Besides Japan, seafood, including the Black Tiger prawn, fish and crab, are exported to the European countries, USA, Gulf countries. The exporters, however, preferred export these food material to Japan as they were getting remunerative prices and timely payment.

"If we lose Japan market, we will be certainly affected as other markets are unlikely to provide us high prices," said another exporter.

This will ultimately affect the prawn cultivators in the state, the Mohanty said.

Meanwhile, the state government has asked the exporters to chalk out a contingency plan, so that the seafood export is not affected due to the natural disaster in Japan.

"We have asked the exporters to chalk out the contingency plan," said states fishery and animal resources development commissioner Satyabrata Sahu.

In depth: Tsunami Impact

The exporters said, they have to find out new market for the export. "We have to look at Russia and South African countries," Mohanty said.

Seafood Producers more concerned for Japan than exports

HALIFAX, N.S. - With five per cent of Nova Scotia’s seafood exports going to Japan, processing companies are keeping a close eye on the country’s recovery.

It’s not the bottom line they’re concerned with, the safety of friends and colleagues is priority number one.

Local seafood processors won’t feel the effects of last week’s disaster for some time, if at all.

It’s too early to tell what effect the disaster will have on sales of fish and shellfish products, but that won’t be felt for some time, says the senior manager of Louisbourg Seafoods in Glace Bay.

The company sends about 100,000 pounds of snow crab to Japan each year, Derrick Kennedy says.

He anticipates an effect on the industry, but Louisbourg doesn’t usually begin shipping to Japan until September.

“There’s no doubt that when our snow crab season is open, the Japanese are in buying lots of product,” he explains. “If that slows, that could have a negative impact on the market price.”

The Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture isn’t prepared to speculate how the situation will affect the province.

Nova Soctia exported $38 million of seafood products to Japan in 2009 – primarily lobster, crab and herring - but the department’s communications director Celeste Sulliman says the United States imported $510 million of fish and seafood that same year.

“We know how important this resource industry is,” she says. “The seafood industry (in Nova Scotia) has seen ups and downs and they’re a very resilient bunch.”

One of the region’s largest producers, Clearwater Seafoods, saw only moderate delays in shipments at the end of last week when planes were backlogged coming into Tokyo-Narita airport following the earthquake.

CEO Ian Smith says he was “surprised” how little business has been affected. “It’s business as usual.”

Japan can’t survive without food coming in.

The Japanese Ministry of Health says the country relies on imports for roughly 60 per cent of the food it requires to feed its population of 126 million.

If there is some sort of disruption to air and sea service, Smith assures there are back up options to get shipments into the country.

Tokyo isn’t the only gateway Clearwater and other exporters use: Cargo can be diverted to Osaka, Kobe and cities further south if need be.

There are some freight restrictions heading into Japan and travelling domestically, by road and rail, within the country.

Some air carriers have opted to cancel flights to Narita International Airport or have limited cargo shipments to emergency medical supplies but even those limitations are starting to ease.

“The fear is,” Mike Wolthers says, “it’ll get stuck and not get through customs, not be able to be handled.”

Exporters like Wolther’s employer, Kintetsu World Express, need to keep tabs on electricity powering the cold-storage facilities where their product is headed.

The Japanese government has ordered rolling blackouts to cope with the loss of electricity from infrastructure damage and the nuclear reactor shutdowns.

There should be a TOTAL SAFETY BAN on all Japanese food drinks medicine and consumables e.g. condoms; tooth brush; dental cream; hair cream etc. Unless Ministry of Trade / Industry or AVA is going to sample and test and type-approve or PSB to certify safe. The Govt MUST DO THEIR over-paid JOBS!

Like Ne-WATER ask ministers to eat Japanese Beef & Sea Food on live TV!

This thing is a million times more risky than SARS, because UV & HEAT can kill virus, body temp can scan. NUKE can not!

Is CAAS checking passengers and flights from Japan for radiation levels?

Spreading fear now?

If you want to ban, you might as well ban everything which comes from japan. That would include cars, electronics, condoms, etc which are assembled and made in Japan. :p

who say ban sushi? ...

I think we should change the mentality of asking the government to ban this and that. If you feel it's safe, eat it. If you don't feel it's safe, don't eat it. Others want to eat it or don't want to eat it, it's others' choice and problem.

Are you afraid that your uneducated parents may buy Japan stuff?

___________The SCUMS will never ban anything that benefits them.

When you fall sick. They make money from you.

You think NEW WATER is for fun? How many have suffered skin diseases bathing in NEW WATER? How many other diseases from NEW WATER?

Singaporeans are sleeping.

The COMPANY that "invented" NEW WATER have recently started selling "HOME WATER PURIFICATION" equipment in retail stores around Singapore. You frighten or not?

They know something we do not? NEW WATER is not safe. I do not care what bullshit our papers say about it. It is NOT SAFE!:oIo::oIo:
