1 The number of international students who receive tuition grant in each of the matriculation cohorts has decreased over the last few years from 2010. Currently, international students who receive tuition grant in each matriculation cohort comprise about 6% or 1,700 in the polytechnics, down from 9% in 2010. In the publicly-funded universities, they make up 13% or 2,200, compared to 18% in 2010.

2 International students in our tertiary institutions pay higher fees than Singaporean students. The tuition grants for international students total about $210 million per year, which is less than 10% of the total annual subsidies to our tertiary institutions.

3 International students who receive tuition grants are required to work in a Singapore-based company for three years upon graduation to supplement our labour force. Most of the grant recipients have been working and are contributing to our economy, while some did not start work immediately as they had deferred their bonds to pursue further studies. Actions will be taken against those who default on their obligations.

Still, there have been known cases which the foreign stude

From the chart, it seems that the government is also providing subsidy for foreigners doing medicine. Why the hell are we spending so much to help foreigners to become doctors when there are so many sinkees who can take on that role??????

Total 3900 student for $210m.
Each student $210m/3900 = Each student $53k worth it if they convert to Sg citizen.

I've heard from insiders that Jurong Island has been given over to the oil and chemical companies. Those companies own the land there, they do not need to pay rent. Not too long ago Pinky went to Jurong Island to be the VIP of an opening ceremony.

Yes technically correct. They provide job to at least 5k SGPn and 15k FT.
Imagine turnover ever year calculated more than $30billion alone in that Jurong Island.

So what if they become sinkee? They will return to their homeland as soon as the first problem appear.

$53k per year ...$318k for the foreign med student in total. Why should $318k be spent on a foreigner when there are capable sinkees who want to be doctors?

Economy make sense. Let discuss this
1. On average student age 18~20 before come study in SG on scholarship>> imagine gov save 18 year of cost on medical/baby bonus/childcare/medical/.........will be more than $53k for 18 year.
2. Save time and cost. At least those on scholarship 80% are really educated and will work in Sg at least for few year most of them more than 10 year>>> compare to Sinkie more than 30% are ITE or Ah Beng Ah lian. Those educated so called university all are business related MBA most of them dont choose technical/chemist/engineering.......................>>> so on average FT student more quality and cost efficeint.
3. FT student are more better EQ there live in big country see rural and city. Where SG whole country is city no different from East to west SG. So Sinkie more narrow minded and feel protected cant survive outside SG. Only small % SG can manage to survive outside SG and live there.

I am floored by your reasoning, I surrender.

Just pop up the post to see and debate on the issue. To see I miss out any point???
If scholarship more economy in $$.

Not to mention, they will spending here during their work stint here for a few years and contribute to the economy. Likewise, their relatives might also follow them here to spend. Come to think of it, we do have a wise Gahment.
