SINGAPORE — Seven people on a Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight from Johannesburg that carried two travellers who tested positive for the new Omicron coronavirus strain upon arrival in Sydney had disembarked in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.

MOH said on Monday (Nov 29) that one of the seven people was a close contact of an infected person on the flight, and has been quarantined.

The ministry did not specify if this infected person with Covid-19 is one of the two travellers who the New South Wales health ministry said have tested positive for the new virus strain, which the World Health Organization has labelled as a “variant of concern”.

The six other passengers who disembarked in Singapore are on a 10-day stay-home notice at a dedicated facility where they will be tested for the coronavirus, MOH said.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that two travellers from southern Africa who had transited in Singapore on a flight to Sydney have tested positive for the variant.

MOH on Monday said that the pair had departed Johannesburg in South Africa on Nov 27 via Singapore Airlines SQ481 and arrived at Changi Airport on the same day for their transit flight.

MOH added that their pre-departure tests in South Africa on Friday were negative for Covid-19.

It stressed that most of the travellers on the flight had remained in the transit area at Changi Airport until their departure on flight SQ211 bound for Sydney on Nov 28, and that they had not entered Singapore or visited other areas in Changi Airport.

“Contact tracing is ongoing for airport staff who may have come into transient contact with the cases,” MOH added.

PAP is taking real life sample. Test it and come up with vaccine and become hub for this vaccine business.

PAP not stupid...

It seems the desperation to open up for flights to land here and save Changi is top priority so much so they still allow flights from S Africa, transit and PR's and citizens to enter .
The correct thing is to ban flights from S Africa and the affected 6 neighbouring countries until the situation is clear.

Changi Airport to become another cluster. Oldies who working there as cleaners or baggage carriers will be infected. In one swoop we potentially lower the median age of our population. PAP da best.

Nobody finds it strange they can develop the PCR test for Omicron in just days? You got to be a fool to believe Omicron actually exists in real life. Hahaha...

How do we know that Omicron is in the UK?

The swabs from PCR tests that have given a positive result for what looks like Omicron have been sent to a lab for a full genetic analysis, using a technique known as genomic sequencing.

MEDIAN AND 90TH PERCENTILE TURNAROUND TIME TO OBTAIN VIRUS WHOLE GENOME SEQUENCING RESULT FROM TIME OF COVID-19 TEST

The National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) performs viral genomic sequencing for all confirmed COVID-19 cases. The average time taken to obtain a virus whole genome sequencing (WGS) result from the time a patient's COVID-19 test is reported as positive is seven days. The turnaround time of seven days is comparable to that of Australia and the United Kingdom (UK). A longer time may be taken for some specimens, such as if re-extraction is needed due to low viral load in the specimen.

"The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country." -Edward Bernays, father of PR. This is why I am not a democrat. Democracy is the rule of the gullible, of mediocrity.

6.9 days. it’s the most popular and convenient number when one is at a loss.
