NOW that the Chinese New Year is approaching, consumers are stocking up on the usual reunion meal fare, including the prized and expensive abalone.
It is common to see promotions by supermarket chains and retailers advertising ridiculously low prices for canned abalone.
What consumers must consider is that a 500g can of abalone selling for $28.80 includes the weight of the stock or liquid in the can. In fact, the actual weight of the abalone might be significantly less.
So beware of such cheap tricks.
