<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I SUPPORT Mr Narayana Narayana's suggestion ('Active ageing: Relook fare policy', Wednesday) to remove restriction on senior citizens' concessions on public transport to specific time periods.
Let us do a simple sum: On average, how many total passenger trips per day are made by senior citizens versus the total number of passenger trips of all passengers per day. From this, we can quantify to what extent 'the young people will have to shoulder the cost of providing concessions to a big group of people'. Exactly how big is this group of people? I hope the transport operators or the Land Transport Authority can enlighten us, so the issue can be settled once and for all.
From another perspective, I am sure young people today will not mind shouldering the cost of providing concession to senior citizens who in their younger days contributed their fair share to the community. They know that one day, they too will become senior citizens, and will be pleased to enjoy such a kind gesture extended by society.
By giving unrestricted concession to senior citizens for travel on public transport, we will also show by example, especially to the younger generation, our respect for and gratitude to the elderly in society.

<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I AGREE with Mr Narayana Narayana's letter on Wednesday, 'Active ageing: Relook fare policy'.
The elderly are encouraged to work and most hold low-paying jobs and must reach their workplace early. Hence bus concession rates should not be restricted to specific times.
Couples are encouraged to have more children and grandparents play a major role in looking after their grandchildren while parents are at work. Grandparents have to travel, especially during peak hours (without fare concessionary rates) to their destination and back home. Senior citizens should not be restricted from their activities and bonding by specific time fare concession rates.
Giving concession rates (without time restriction) will encourage more seniors to work and live actively. By giving them this 'small privilege', we recognise their past contribution to the nation.

baboons in white dont take MRT or MTR, or take bust !

they got people drive them here and there, how they see things from ivory, they only know how to cum together !

No lah, without the senior citizens during the peak hours singaporean are already complaining the the trains are jam packed like sardines.
the senior citiizens would be crushed and suffocated and may die of heart attack. further they jeopardised the smooth operation of the train and their legs may be caught btwn the train and the platform.

in order no to recieved more complains from the whinners in singapore, please do no extend concessions to senior citizens during peak hours

Plus senior citizens during the peak hours... we will never get to sit...
