SINGAPORE: Police arrested 127 suspects during a four-day islandwide operation against loansharking which ended on Friday.
Police said that the suspects are between 18 and 74 years old. 89 are men and 38 are women.
Police said early investigations showed that 11 suspects were allegedly involved in loansharking activities such as harassment, or as runners for loan sharks.
Three of the 127 suspects are believed to have provided false contact information when obtaining loans from loan sharks, which resulted in the innocent house owners being harassed. They are being investigated for failing to report their change of address.
The remaining 113 suspects are believed to have opened bank accounts and given away their ATM cards and Personal Identification Numbers to loan sharks.
Investigations are ongoing. - CNA/ac
