The placard proclaims, “Jesus saves, but you must believe and call on Him,” suggesting that salvation depends on human choice and initiative. This notion portrays Jesus as a passive deity whose divine power hinges on mortal recognition - a comforting idea for those who cling to the illusion of control.
Scripture, however, tells a far more unsettling story. In John 15:16, Jesus declares, "You did not choose Me, but I chose you," leaving no room for human initiative in the matter of salvation. Further, in Matthew 13:13, He cites Isaiah 6:9-10 in full:
“Go, and say to this people:
‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand;
keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’
Make the heart of this people dull,
and their ears heavy,
and blind their eyes;
lest they see with their eyes,
and hear with their ears,
and understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.”
Human perception, understanding, and effort are powerless. The idea that anyone can “call on Him” at will is a comforting illusion. God alone determines who will be saved;
the rest remain blind, deaf, and unhealed, regardless of their prayers, intentions, or devotion. Songboh, sheep?
Unfortunately for the well-meaning yet clueless zealots who hope to forge a career in Christianity by presenting themselves as intermediaries to God, salvation is not determined by human will - it is the sovereign, inscrutable act of God’s will alone. You cannot broker salvation, you twit. Go find a proper job!
