It could very well be the inconvenience and financial losses caused by floods that turns the election results.
The majority of Singaporeans don't care about the poor and needy, foreigners taking peoples' jobs, foreigners casuing overcrowding on public transport, high property prices as long as their own property price rises, spending millions or billions on youth games with no guarantee of tangible returns, casino gambling breaking up families, etc etc.
But flooding? That affects everyone....................
