Like Nazi propaganda children books, Singapore media The Straits Times published a Lee Kuan Yew-themed children book called “What’s Inside the Red Box” to indoctrinate young children in PAP-affiliated kindergartens with values of the deceased dictator. The book featured quotes from Lee Kuan Yew and his trumped-up stories, with the main protagonist and hero, of course, Lee Kuan Yew.
Over 700 copies of the book were distributed to the PAP Community Foundation (PCF) kindergartens around the island, and the donation was made by Temasek Holding’s real estate arm, Mapletree Investments.
At the book’s launch at a kindergarten on Monday (March 7), Minister of State for Manpower Sam Tan poured praises for Lee Kuan Yew:
“You can still see that the passion of the people – their affection for him – is still very, very strong. (Lee Kuan Yew) didn’t realise whether those dreams, in those days, would be able to be materialised one day. But that didn’t stop him from dreaming big.”
Like North Korea, the education system in Singapore is heavily politicized as the government groom citizens from a young age to ensure the ruling party PAP remains in power. Stories of Lee Kuan Yew’s crimes against human rights and his authoritarianism are omitted from school textbooks, to impress upon young mind as a “founding father” image.
