SINGAPORE — The Progress Singapore Party (PSP) on Friday (May 1) expelled a member who confessed to making an anonymous video which made allegations against fellow PSP members as well as others.

This is the second expulsion by the opposition party in slightly over a month, and it is also the second time a member was expelled after being implicated in police investigations.

Mr Daniel Teo Weilong, a 36-year-old who had featured prominently on PSP’s social media engagements, admitted to party chief Tan Cheng Bock that he was behind the video which claimed that PSP “has been infiltrated by foreign proxies”.

The video also named 10 members which it claimed had been working with Singapore People’s Party chairman Jose Raymond and historian Thum Ping Tjin.

A number of those named, including Mr Raymond, have made police reports on the matter.

In response to TODAY’s queries, PSP said: “The party was informed by one of our members, Daniel Teo, about his involvement in the production of an anonymous video. Upon the completion of internal investigations, the Progress Singapore Party has decided on the expulsion of this member.”

Dr Tan had announced the expulsion of Mr Teo, who was seen on walkabouts in Choa Chu Kang Group Representation Constituency, via a broadcast message — which was seen by TODAY — on the party members’ Telegram chat group on Friday night.

The message from Dr Tan read: “There has been a very serious breach of party discipline and potential breach of the law by a member of our party, Daniel Teo.

“Daniel has confessed to me that he has committed this serious offense against the party and a few of our members. This case is now under police investigations.”

Dr Tan said in his message that PSP’s central executive committee has decided unanimously to expel Mr Teo “with immediate effect”, despite Mr Teo making an offer himself to resign from the party.

Dr Tan also said the party leadership was not at liberty to provide details of Mr Teo’s transgression at this stage. Even so, he said it was a matter that “the party has absolutely no tolerance for”.

“We have taken decisive action on this to preempt any rumor or speculation that may be detrimental to our party’s reputation,” he added.

“Any action that hurts the party’s credibility cannot and will not be tolerated.”

Mr Teo works in a marine engineering firm and owns a wellness company. His sacking came after PSP expelled 30-year-old technology consultant Jan Chan on March 21, following his admission that he was behind a Facebook post which was the subject of a police investigation.

The Facebook post, made on the NUS Atheist Society Facebook page, depicted the Bible and Quran as alternatives to be used in the event of a toilet-paper shortage. The Ministry of Home Affairs had said police were investigating it after receiving a number of complaints.

That guy is a PAP mole lah.

It looks like everyone is a PAP mole.

Oppie Bock needs to be less conceited. Without the grassroots leaders, he wouldn't have won by such large margins in his little SMC elections.

Which one? The baldie is the mole? 36 yo so young the hair no more must be very stress to be a mole huh.

It looks like everyone is a PAP mole.

Oppie Bock needs to be less conceited. Without the grassroots leaders, he wouldn't have won by such large margins in his little SMC elections.
Why your pap sent so many moles? Izzit they feel threatened by Bock?

Maybe Bock is the mole. After all, he was a PAP MP and CEC cadre.
Can't be him. This is the last chance he has to redeem himself and repent from his sinful association with the pap back in the day.

I think it's the second from left, that's why they said "left in focus".

A party that expand too fast and too big will be prone to this problem. You tend to bring in people with all sorts of characters and agendas without going through a vetting process.

The damage will be immense if such people made it to become their candidates.

It’s instigated by the disgraced brother. He feels unjust not having invited to play the role of Mahathir.

That guy is a PAP mole lah.
Yes!! a lot of PAP mole and troll planted inside TCB's camp. Let's hope the party is not blinded by the danger of aggressive recruiting and create 3-corner fight which is not healthy. Think of bigger picture. Give SDP & WP the opportunity to go into parliament.

Everywhere the same.
Look at Malaysia political party Anwar and Azmin etc.
When they fear your success they will send in spys and moles etc.
If not who will be so stupid make video that surely get caught and expel??

Marine companies and well-ness companies? All belongs to PAP's pet. Marines companies need more manpower, so they need PAP support. Wellness companies, need PA support, so they want businesses from RC. This chap came from both type of industries and i am not surprised he was there as Trojan Horse, to not just destroy TCB and his team members but also implicate other opposition parties. Luckily he was found out before he could kill all birds with one stone.

Are moles foreign proxies? Or they just unsightly mutations?

I'm not sure what to make of it. It's not just bringing in some bad eggs -- every political party without exception has done that from time to time. It's that the kind of bad eggs that PSP has brought in have displayed an unusual level of viciousness in attacking what they see as personal threats, and at a very early stage in the game at that.

Best way is to do what WP is doing. Requiring all members to commit to doing grassroots work before considering them as candidates or cadres .
Even so, the party is less stringent on minority candidates as they lack minority to fill the GRC. As a result, a few bad eggs particularly the 'indian' minority candidates play out the party.
