This is an inspirational story and should serve notice to all to do the right thing.
Old man's brother-in-law went to see his sister and explained to her that he wanted to take his eldest son out of school and send him overseas as he was struggling with Mandarin. He told her that it was affecting his school work and his confidence. The sister patiently explained that it will be a blow to the old man and it was important to stay united. Coming from a Pernakan family with no background in Mandarin was a challenge. The brother-in-law despite holding a very senior position relented and the son remained in school.
Couple of years later, his second son was showing the same signs. This time he called the sister out of courtesy and basically told her in nice words to tell the old man to "Fuck Off". He sent his son to Hawaii to finish school.
In life, you set the agenda, never the govt and never this this particular Govt. You only intervene for the less able and those who need help amongst your countrymen. You do not tolerate and you do not accept. You break out and treat the world as your oyster. Recently got a message from a forummer notifying the landing of his family in the US and the securing of PR for his family. Soon its is going to be the 14 year of helping people find the world and treat it as their home.
14 years ago, no would have imagined or even bet that this country would have 6 million people and national demographic statistics would be hidden. No NS man would have imagined a govt selling their country's citizenship like tissue paper - 2 years for normal processing and 1 year for fast cases. No one would have contemplated seeing an overgrown Vietnamese kids purportedly within the age group smash the National School Athletic records. No would have imagined littering, bad manners, poor habits and crime coming back with a vengeance and with a foreign flavour. One would imagine a PR can live in a HDB flat and own a condominium. So what happened? Did we sit by and watch?
