It proved that to intercept any missile incoming to your city, you need to fire much more at least 3 interceptors to 1 incoming, or 5 to 1, and still won't guaranty your safety.

Saudi Arabia intercepts 7 missiles fired from Yemen, military officials say

By Amir Vera and Nic Robertson, CNN

Updated 0613 GMT (1413 HKT) March 26, 2018

(CNN)Saudi Arabia's air force intercepted seven missiles fired from Yemen on Sunday and, in the debris that rained down on residential suburbs from the interceptions, one man was killed, the Saudis said in a statement.

Coalition forces spokesman Col. Turki Al Maliki said the missiles were fired from Yemen at four target areas, and all the missiles were intercepted and destroyed, according to the statement.
This isn't the first time the kingdom was the target of missile strikes from neighboring Yemen, but it is the first time there's been a fatality on Saudi soil. After previous interceptions, the Saudis responded with airstrikes on the Yemeni capital of Sana'a. The response to a fatal incident such as Sunday's is likely to be even more punishing.
Three were aimed at the capital city of Riyadh, one was headed toward the southwest in Khamis Mushait, one along the southern border targeting Najran and two were headed for the southern city of Jizan.
The interception of the missiles led to fragments "raining on a few residential neighborhoods," the statement said, which led to the death of an Egyptian resident and material damage to "civilian objects."
Videos posted to YouTube, which were included in the official Saudi news release, show explosions illuminating the night sky. Others showed people running up to inspect what appears to be missile debris beside a highway.
"These aggressive actions are in blatant violation to the UN Security Resolution 2216 and 2231. These hostile acts continue to pose a direct threat to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and threaten regional, as well as international, security," the statement said.
The Saudi statement blamed Houthi rebels for the missile attack, which it said "highlights the increased capacity of terrorist organizations and those who stand behind them."

Previous missiles directed at Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia has been leading a coalition of states against Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, who toppled that country's internationally-recognized government in 2015.
Between November and December of last year, the Saudi air force intercepted at least two missiles targeting its capital. Since then, Yemeni rebels have continued targeting locations along the country's border with Yemen.
On November 4, Yemeni rebels targeted an airport in Riyadh with a ballistic missile, according to Yemen's Houthi-controlled Defense Ministry. The missile was intercepted over the city, the Saudi Ministry of Defense said in a statement carried on government-backed Al-Arabiya television.
Yemen's Defense Ministry said the missile attack "shook the Saudi capital" and the operation was successful. The attack was conducted using a long-range missile called the Burqan 2H, it said.
The Riyadh airport tweeted that it hadn't been affected.

Saudis: Yemen rebels fired missile at capital 02:16
On December 19, the Saudi Arabia-led coalition fighting Houthi rebels in Yemen said it intercepted a ballistic missile south of Riyadh, according to Saudi state television station Al Ekhbariya.
The missile did not cause any damage.
The missile was headed to a residential area in the Saudi capital, before it was intercepted, Saudi Arabia's official news agency reported.
Houthi spokesman Mohammed AbdulSalam said on his Twitter account that the rebels fired the Burqan 2H ballistic missile, targeting the prestigious Yamama Palace hotel in the Saudi capital. The Burqan missile is an Iranian-modified scud missile.
Blaming Iran
Saudi Arabia has blamed Iran in the past for supplying the rebels with weapons. After the November 4, missile strike, the kingdom's foreign minister accused Hezbollah, the Lebanese Shiite militant and political group that is aligned with Iran, of smuggling missile parts into Yemen.
"Operatives from the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and Hezbollah" helped put it back together again and launch it, Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed al-Jubeir told CNN.
"This is a very, very hostile act," he said. "We have been extending our hand to Iran since 1979 in friendship, and what we get back is death and destruction."
Iran at the time responded to the Saudi claims of Tehran's involvement with Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi calling the accusations "false, irresponsible, destructive and provocative," according to the Iranian news agency Tasnim.
CNN's Elise Labott, Tim Lister, Ammar Albadran, Hakim Al-Masmari, Sarah El Sirgany, Eric Levenson, Jamie Tarabay, Tamara Qiblawi and Ruth Hetherington contributed to this report.

IDF: Iron Dome fires mistakenly in response to Hamas drill
Incoming alarms sound throughout area surrounding Gaza Strip as system triggered by live-fire exercise within Strip; IDF retaliates with tank fire

The Iron Dome missile defense system was apparently mistakenly activated by automatic gunfire within Gaza on Sunday, sending an unnecessary barrage of interceptors into the skies above southern Israel, the army said.

The launch of the interceptors also appeared to be responsible for the wave of missile warning sirens that went off in the southern regions of Hof Ashkelon and Shaar Hanegev earlier on Sunday night.

No rockets were fired at Israel, according to the Israel Defense Forces. An army spokesperson stressed that the situation was normal along the Gaza border.

Yet the IDF retaliated to the apparent false alarm with tank fire aimed at two Hamas positions in the northern Gaza Strip, the army said.

The late night sirens and Iron Dome launches were apparently set off by the live-fire military exercise being held by Gaza’s Hamas rulers on Sunday.

In a statement, the IDF said it “takes seriously all types of fire aimed at Israeli territory,” indicating the tank fire may have been fired under the mistaken belief the live-fire exercise had been aimed at Israel.

The incident highlighted rising tensions along the Gaza border.

An IDF spokesperson said the military would investigate the technical reason why the Iron Dome and alarm systems were activated in order to ensure that such an event does not repeat itself.

Videos filmed by residents of southern Israel showed the launches of multiple Iron Dome interceptor missiles into the night skies.

Tensions have been on the rise between Israel and the terrorist groups in the Palestinian enclave in recent weeks, following a number of security incidents along the security fence.

On Saturday, a group of four masked Palestinian men entered Israeli territory after cutting through the chainlink fence and tried to set fire to the heavy engineering vehicles that are being used to construct a new above- and below-ground barrier around Gaza.

The IDF has launched a volley of anti-aircraft missiles into clear skies, after Israel’s Iron Dome defense system activated during a Hamas military drill in Gaza, after it confused machine gun fire with incoming projectiles.
Late-night sirens across several Israeli communities on Sunday prompted the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) to activate the country’s Iron Dome anti-missile shield. While many ran for cover in the cities of Sderot and Ashkelon, some residents of the Southern District of Israel instead recorded the fireworks display, as the Iron Dome fired about ten Tamir missiles, valued at around $50,000 each, against imaginary targets in the night sky.

The sudden explosive spectacle was triggered by a live fire military exercise being held by Gaza’s Hamas on Sunday, the IDF soon realized. While detonating bombs and firing machine guns during the drill, Hamas forces also reportedly launched a couple of missiles, but in the opposite direction of Israel, towards the Mediterranean Sea.

“All of the alarms were triggered by machine gun fire in Gaza. There were no rockets which fell inside Israeli territory,” IDF Spokesman Brig.-Gen. Ronen Manelis told reporters, adding that the Iron Dome was also “used against machine gun fire.”

While the Israeli military is looking into the circumstances behind the Iron Dome system’s premature response, Abu Ubaida, spokesman of Hamas’ armed wing, firmly stated that no rockets were fired towards Israel.

Furthermore, despite the fact that Hamas had warned Israeli residents ahead of the drill, telling them that the exercise would be “defensive,” Israel retaliated against “unusual machine gun fire towards Israel” by targeting two observation posts in the northern Gaza Strip. Israel “takes seriously all types of fire aimed at Israeli territory,” the IDF said, reiterating Israel’s long-standing position that Hamas bears responsibility “for any terror emanating from the Gaza Strip”.

Hamas lashed out against the Israeli response, claiming that Tel Aviv is aggravating tensions in the already unstable enclave. “The enemy (Israel) bears responsibility for any escalation and we will not stand handcuffed against any aggression,” Abu Ubaida was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Sunday’s incident comes amid rising tensions across the occupied Palestinian territories, which reached an unprecedented level following Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israeli capital back in December. It also follows Saturday night’s Israeli Air Force raid against a Hamas compound in Gaza, in retaliation against a border breach and an arson attack against an IDF engineering vehicle.

As seen in interceptions of Scud fired by Saddam during Iraq wars, most of the interceptions are meaningless because the debris in flames still fall into your city including the working warhead. Your strike merely caused it to hit point B within your city instead of original point A - even if your interception succeeded ! Most of the time the hit just struck the near empty fuel tank of the missile to break it into fragments. So it may be out of control but already within your city's boundary. The scuds and these Yemen or Hisbolah missiles are not actually high precision aiming and merely just want to enter your city and whack just any part blindly any way. So your interception made no difference.

If it was a nuke aimed for the city? Unless you can prevent the warhead from detonating E=MC² otherwise, your city is still nuked!
