<!-- story content : start --> SBS Transit has increased the basic pay of its bus captains by 15 per cent to $1,375 a month to try and attract more Singaporeans to the job.
Together with other allowances, they can earn more than $1,900 every month in their first year of employment. Currently, SBS has 5,500 bus captains, 38 per cent of whom are Singaporeans.

The lack of interest from Singaporeans towards this job has been a problem in the last few years with the bus operators needing to ramp up recruitment to meet new frequency guidelines by Authorities.

Bad English. Should be other way round - only 38% SBS Bus Captains are Singaporeans. Think you need that job too.

Is the number of 'FTs' they can bring in pegged to the number of locals that they already employed ?

If yes, then a 15% more to hire a local then they can hire a FT at $800 (not sure what is the going rate for FT drivers but can't be far wrong), averaging it out, company still win big time.

so now SBS are admitting that they are under-paying...?

wow..perfect excuse to raise bus fares. esp now with loss of advertising revenue frm TV mobile...

no wonder someone said we are now in the Golden Age...

honestly i didn't knew bus drivers ( or so called captains ) earned so little..

i was thinking of about 2.2k... didn't know they are so poorly paid..
