Frankly, how popular was this Roy/Rory guy's blog before the suit started? How many hits did it get again? We see more popular socio-political blogs writing critical stuff of the PAP and yet they dont get letters from Drew and Napier--except say Yawinng Bread?

Do this staffers log every single small blog that writes about SG?

ISD lah ...every day, a brief has to be sent to the PMO and a number of ministries. Red hot issues must be sent to the PM immediately.

PMO is closer to the PM and more trusted. Doubt PM fully trusts ISD which is under Home Affairs.

PMO doesn't have the resources to monitor. ISD has the resources. ISD chief is handpicked by PM.

yes but as I said he trust those closest to him.

Istana has lots of capabilities. Bet you it can sustain heavy bombing.

don't underestimate the pmo. a few years ago when i complained about the sorry state of wi-fi access in sg, they heard and took action with the relevant ministry to improve the situation. now every time i return to sg i have nothing but praise for the elaborate wi-fi system and numerous free pubic hotspots available on the island. they do listen and act depending on who you are, and definitely not the lunatic fringe here. ;)

Nothing to do with ISD.

PAP has an IB which regularly inspects popular online news sites, blogs, forums and social media to see if anything is objectionable. Their focus is on those who write with real names and have a good sized following because that is where the impact factor is.

Objectionable content is sent to the PAP legal team to decide if legal measures are necessary. If so, then the aggrieved party is alerted to the defamatory content and told that he has option to sue. Lawyers will be on standby. For LHL, Davinder would have been kept in the loop even before it got onto LHL's desk.

Sometimes, the minister or MP's own sycophants will spot objectionable content related to their boss, and alert their boss directly. But usually the boss will still consult the legal team on appropriate course of action because the act of suing has political ramifications so the rest of the team must be kept in the loop. If the minister or MP decides to sue, it will be because the rest have agreed that political impact is acceptable. Again, lawyers will be in the loop from the start.

If the content is outright defamatory and very severe, the minister or MP is expected to sue or he will face music from the rest of cabinet.

Are you still a sinkee?

Maybe you and Leong Sam can join up with Sun Ho, Kong Hee and Tin Pei Lin to run for the PAP in Marine Parade GRC.

yes so the people who monitor must be close to the PM.

ISD is thick in the process of monitoring and feeding the PM with info. This is taxpayer funded resources.

Why would the PAP wants to spend its own money to do this?

ISD is internal but not up to PM. PMO is for all things PM related.

SID is even closer to the PM than ISD.

Because to put it simply the ISD has better things to do. There are terror cells operating within 200 miles from Singapore that need to be monitored. This requires inter-agency cooperation with our neighbours. There are always gangsters, hooligans, etc who somehow managed to get arms and they need to be stopped before they can use their arms to do something bad. ISD is also charged with monitoring every political and media organization to make sure it does not receive foreign funds and yes that includes the PAP itself. ISD also is engaged in reverse espionage, surveillance, intelligence gathering, political instigation, etc. The work does not end. It goes on and on and on.

Why do you think the legal team and IB are funded by PAP's own money? The staffers could be civil servants doing freelance work within the flexible bounds of their job scope.

ISD is like the gestapo of the government. The internal eyes and ears for the PM and directed by the PM to hound those posing serious threat to him.
SID is for external intel. Less important than ISD.
PM's future depends on his hold of the country and ISD plays a pivotal role in that.

You think the PM cares more about the country's well being than his own?

So, how does civil servants get seconded to the PAP?

The PM has to take care of the basic well being of SG or else he will face political turmoil from within not to mention rioting on the streets. Oh sorry, there has already been rioting in Little India. OK.

But beyond the basic security of SG the PM is basically free to do anything he wants like import a million PRCs or a million Indian nationals, just as long as he and his team of MPs can get re-elected.

A ragtag band of imbeciles infest the PMO or are under its charge: CPIB, National Population and Talent Division (Population White Paper), Elections Department, National Security Coordination Secretariat (Mas Selamat), ministers without portfolios. ;)

When he can't do that, he goes after his critics, including nobodies.

This I agree.
