SINGAPORE--A Singaporean man and a Taiwanese woman died in a car crash in the city-state Thursday that left four other passengers of the vehicle injured.

The deceased, a 33-year-old Singaporean man who was driving the car and a 29-year-old Taiwanese woman, were sitting in the front of the vehicle when it lost control on the way to Changi Airport, Singaporean media reported.

The car reportedly spun out of control around 7 a.m. while driving on a wet road, slamming into a guardrail before sliding into a large tree in a series of mishaps that devastated the front of the vehicle.

A spokeswoman for Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the ministry is working on contacting the families of the injured and deceased Taiwanese, and officials at Taiwan's representative office in Singapore are assisting with the situation.

As of early afternoon, one of the Taiwanese survivors was undergoing surgery and another was being prepped, said Taiwan's representative office in Singapore. The other two injured passengers were Singaporean and Taiwanese, Singaporean media reported.

All four of the survivors were said to have been sitting in the back seat.
