It's perhaps understandable if the friends and family of the super-talented indispensable ministars, the civil servants, the high level corporate executives, the rich businessmen, the grassroot leaders and rc members, the newly minted citizens and the asslickers, support the pap and their policies.

But why is it that a large number of people who are ordinary, low-income, not-so-rich, trying hard to make ends meet, even struggling singaporeans, also support the pap?

What are you supporting or opposing?

The politicians? The political party? The system?

If one does not understand what he supports or opposes, he thought he knew, but actually merely believed.

This question can only be positively answered if the political playing field is on an even ground. What is the use of an analysis, when each election the people are hapless or don't care they keep changing the electoral boundaries & call it democracy.

Why does Man Utd have more supporters than West Bromwich Albion ?

People tend to support victors so that they can identify themselves with victors.

Coz PAP gave them the HDB?

As long as the older generations were prudent enough to get one when it was low-cost, they are richer by $100k-$300k easily, by asset value.

kiasi- what if they know I vote for opp ?
kiasu- what if my investment like ppty start to plunge if opp in power?
businessmen- system now very good for making $$$ already , why rock it ?
there isn't many choice of opp. , their agenda is unclear and they are good with complain but provides no solution.
lastly, always walk-over , no chance to vote ! :D:D:D

Not true.

I supported Man Utd throughout the 70s, 80s when they are still the underdog.

Yes, could also classify into 2 distinct group. Chelsea fan is very much created from victors and likely Man City will get have a large following in future.

You don't seem to appreciate the difference between the rule and the exception.

The CIVIL SERVICE, GLC, GIC and Temasek affiliates together employ a massive percentage of Singaporean workers who have very little usable grey matter between their ears and are easily intimidated.

The remainder; eg HDB heartlanders (Ah Peks/Ah Sohs) are even more BLUR when it comes to voting in an election.

Life is TOO short to depend on the day when these goons wake up and wise up to the PAP tricks that many who are sick of waiting have chosen to emigrate instead.

So why did you support them?

Perhaps! And I wonder why so many MU supporters like myself?
If you are a Man Utd fan, why don't you contribute to the Man Utd thread?
And if you wanted to support the underdog, you would have supported Hartlepool Town.
The second reason is more valid than the first.

Not any more. ManU won too many titles. so loses steam already.

Now is England, aren't they are the underdog and you like them to win.

I have never supported England, underdog or not.

I would have no issue if you use "minority" instead of "exception".

From someone like you that has an acute eye for correctness! I disgree.

There is a reason why I used 'rule', and in turn, 'exception'.

The majority vs minority dichotomy speaks about quantity, and doesn't offer an elucidation of the context.

In every discussion, whenever a generalization is made of something, you can be assured that someone from somewhere will pop out something different and claim that as an effective rebuttal of the generalization.

A generalization is not absolute; even scientific rules accommodate exceptions to the general rules. The fact that an exception is found simply means the rule is not absolute; it doesn't mean the rule fails as a rule or is ineffective. More importantly, it doesn't show the fellow who came out with the exception is smart.

Not just the Older Generations. Many of the Younger Generation, if they were smart enough to pick good resale HDB in prime locations, are richer by $100-$300k. Some are richer by 1/2 million or more. [refer to ST and tNP, old issues. Re: Jalan Membina and Tiong Bahru]:p
