Charge patient (1) + (2) = $500
Give Singaporean 50% = $250
Deduct fr medisave =-$250

Patient pays $0 from his pocket (medisave acct i poorer by $250
PAP profits $150 from patient

Stupid patient is happy and praises pap gives him free treatment

A simple Google search would reveal that the cost of heart surgery in a developed society like USA to be about $70k to $200k. Andrew Loh's bill was only $25k. With PAP government grant, Andrew Loh only had to pay about $5k cash if he didn't have any insurance. So it looks like even before any insurance or medishield life coverage was used, the government had already paid for 80% of his bill.

i am not a doctor but i suspect what you goggled is highly inflated by the american hospital. so it is not apple to apple comparison.

anyway, I look at hdb flats and i can tell u it is overpriced when compared to cost. that wld be a better comparison as it will tell yo the mentality of pap's pricing model
