A light-heavyweight boxer from Morocco may not participate in the Games after being accused of sexually assaulting two members of the cleaning staff at the Olympic Village.
A Brazilian judge has ordered Hassan Saada, 22, to be detained for 15 days as the alleged incident, which reportedly took place earlier this week, is investigated.
Brazilian media quoted local police as saying Saada pushed one of the women against a wall, pressing her with his thighs and trying to kiss her; he is also accused of squeezing one of her breasts and making obscene hand gestures.
Saada was scheduled to fight his first bout on Saturday, but the judge’s order means he may not be able to take part. Following the arrest, it was confirmed Saada was removed from Olympic competition.
The Moroccan Olympic committee did not immediately comment.
